Uh oh... battery life while tracking running...

Ok, the primary reason I got the Moto 360 was to track my running progress visually without having to take out my phone.

About me, I am a long distance runner. I run 5 times a week, distances from 4 miles a day up to my Saturday long runs, which today's was 16. I am going to increase it eventually to 22 miles, as I am training to run my second ultra marathon, the Rocky Run 50k, a 31 mile race based off of the actual route Rocky would have had to have taken if he did run through all those places in the running montage in Rocky II.

Anyways, I run a lot. And on my shorter runs, like 5 miles, I have about 60-70% left. 40, 45 minutes. That's a drain, but it didn't affect me. About 25-35% an hour. I should be ok for longer runs. Today, 16 miles, took 2.5 hours. It ran out of power right as I was finishing my run. I'm not really happy with that...
Granted, I was checking my watch more because I was testing its functionality. I also had 3 running apps open to see the differences. Runtastic, RunKeeper, and Strava.

Next time, I am going to only have 1 of those apps open. I also might turn brightness to low instead of auto...

I love my Moto 360. I have PLENTY of battery during normal usage. 30% or more left after 14-15 hours use.

I am not happy about seeing a dead watch, though. I didn't see any of the battery warnings, either. Sigh. I know it's first gen, and hopefully I can find a way to get this going for me.

I will keep you guys posted on my findings. Anyone else tracking runs?

Have you settled on a running app, by chance? Looking for recommendations; although, I do not run long distance.

Any new test results using only one app?

I am holding off on the Moto 360 to see if software updates improve it.

I am testing them out, haven't settled yet. None are" perfect" although i wonder what is my phone's bad GPS's fault. I'm am going to post a review on YouTube. Will let you know!

I am also a runner and run about 10 miles a day i use strava with a tom tom watch and am wondering a few things.

I use strava as my main log.

Can you check heart rate during a run? Is it easy to use spotify and go back to strava?

Is the leather band falling apart? I am thinking about getting a rubber/diver band on it.

You have the black or silver?

Thanks and good luck on your race :)

Hey! I am using the silicone watch band on it, you are on that thread as well. It is working well! You can check your heart rate as well, but it's tough cuz it needs a steady arm. I don't use that function much.

I am still looking at battery stuff. The other day was weird. It was rainy. Very rainy. I think the water was causing my screen to turn on and I got extra drain. But, the good thing is that I know it is rain proof! I got SOAKED. But my watch is still fine!

When I get the chance, I will compile that video review.

I ran 9 miles with a 90% full battery and approximately 1:30 later the battery was at 16% probobly because the screen stays on not negate the GPS since that drains the phone or should drain the phone only. It makes it hard to take it in long runs plus i cant figure out how to easily switch between apps mid tin without needing the strava workout and I am disappointed that strava can't pull data from the heart rate monitor. I heard its an android wear issue?

I the issue is that the watch is constantly streaming the data from the phone, and the step counter is counting steps. I heard that if you root the phone you can disable the step counter...

Btw, I ran about 3 hours the other day, 17 miles, went from 96% to 19% . Turned auto brightness off, brightness set on 1, lowest setting. Muted notifications in between checking stuff. That's still about a 1% drop every two or so minutes, though. This was with Endomondo. I like that app a lot. And I turn off screen in between checking. No need to have it on. Gotta figure out how to squeeze more juice out of it otherwise, it doesn't quite do what I need my watch to do...other than that, though, battery is great for me. :(
