Hi, All
I own a HTC Desire (Orange) and am very happy with my phone.
I am planning a trip to the USA (Oregon and Yellowstone area) and am planning to use COPILOT on the Desire as a GPS application.

Ideally I would like to use my existing SIM card (and phone number) while I am travelling, but I am worried about unexpected 3G charges (about ?8.00 per Mb).

To limit the cost of phone bill, I am considering the following:
1. Get My HTC unlocked
2. Purchase a USA SIM card when I get there.

This means that I can't get UK calss and texts while I am there, as the USA SIM card will have a local USA number...

Does anybody have ideas about this?

Well if only the roaming data charges are worrying you, you can always turn off network data in the settings. You can even set it to disconnect when roaming, there's a checkbox option for that, too. Sure, you will only have WiFi for data, but if that's the only problem, it's the best solution. Of course, if you're worried about the roaming call charges, you should get a "local" number.
