Un-rooting to update...?

I rooted my One last night and was planning to s-off tonight but now today it seems 4.2.2 is rolling out in the UK. I've read I can't install OTA updates if rooted so what do I need to do to achieve this? I know it's an old subject but this is my first attempt...

I am in the exact same situation as 'markfireblade97' and was about to create a new thread. I too am in the UK and have rooted my phone. I have set my phone to s=off and the 4.2.2 update arrived today but get errors when trying to update OTA. I think the update has downloaded to my phone but will not update as the clockwork mod says that it cannot find the update. Maybe it didn't download. Any help would also be appreciated. I believe I need to relock the boot loader then RUU my phone. I am on a MAC but can access a windows machine if need be, is this the correct approach if so what is the correct RUU file?

So you need to have stock recovery installed and your bootloader locked (unless you have a dev edition). Easiest way to do this is to relock the bootloader and run the RUU exe to flash it back to stock. You will wipe the phone, so make a backup before. Helium is a great app for saving app data.

Alternate method if you are good at it, is to flash just the stock recovery via adb and relock the bootloader and you should be good to go.

I THINK the right RUU for UK is the WWE (if not its the Europe)... but you should really double check with either HTC or the folks on XDA.

Thanks for the response, as an alternative solution, I have been reading about manually updating my phone using the OTA update. My question is where on my phone is the OTA update located? I can't seem to find it. I know how to do the rest but can't get to the file.

If it's not in the Download folder in your SD card then it most likely got deleted after the failed update attempt. You'll most likely have to redownload it (and that would be a good idea after relocking the bootloader and going back to stock) in order to update OTA.

I used TWRP recovery when I rooted, and I've done a restore from that. What's next to get the phone to run the OTA I've just downloaded?

Cheers

I have downloaded the update and selected to install it later. I cannot find the file anywhere on my phone. I am using ES Explorer. I have also got hold of a second HTC ONE which has not been hacked or rooted. Downloaded the update, and again cannot find it on the phone. Any ideas where it is located as it is not in the Download folder on either phone.

I have solved the problem, found an old RUU which I used to put my phone back to stock, then OTA updated to current 4.2.2.

The procedure is very straight forward, but first you have to have S=OFF on your phone, because the RUU file is an earlier version that what is currently installed on your phone. If you can set your phone to S=OFF I can send you the details to make it work. Remember this will only work with S=OFF
What's the procedure for that please?

OK thank you, I'll have a look at doing that tonight. I'm on EE in the UK (although I had the phone unlocked) if it makes any difference.

That bit I am not sure of, my CID is HTC__001, Baseband is 4A.14.3250.13, and My Version Number is 1.29.401.16. The RUU file is RUU_M7_UL_JB_50_Europe_1.28.401.7, they key bit of information is Europe and 401. I am not sure but your Version number and CID may be different in which I don't think it will work.

My baseband is different, software version is 1.28.61.7, I can't find the CID or RUU info.

You can use an application like CID Getter to view your CID, or you boot into the bootloader and it will be written there.

CID is ORANGE001. I can't find an RUU but there is a CWM Nandroid backup - can I flash that instead?

Sorry yes, I used TWRP. That file I mentioned was all I could find for Orange. The problem now is I re-locked the bootloader prior to going back to stock and now TWRP seems to have disappeared and the fastboot screen shows "Security Warning" along with "ReLocked" etc. And I still can't find a RUU except a Europe one, which as least has the same radio....
