Unable to charge device / phone randomly turns on

I've had my T-Mobile HTC One for not quite 2 months now and it has been excellent apart from an issue that began happening a couple of days ago. *Using the charger that came with the device, it will suddenly stop charging - often after charging normally for a few minutes. *I constantly get a message in the top left corner which, when dragged down, says 'Unable to charge device, please use the supported charger'. *This happens even when it isn't plugged in.

It won't recognize my charger or computer when it is turned on, and will only charge (very slowly at that) when it is turned off, which is not always ideal. When the phone is left idle, it keeps 'waking up' to give the message, and I have noticed today that it has also gone slightly haywire on a number of occasions, opening random apps by itself, changing the formatting of the screen, etc. *This has resulted in the battery draining more rapidly, which, when combined with an inability to charge, can quickly lead to an unusable phone.

It looks like I'm not the only who has experienced this issue. Is there a solution apart from having the phone replaced?

Thanks!

Sorry no one's replied so far! Even though you're using the charger that came with your device, equipment can become faulty, so first I'd see if you can use another charger (as well as another USB cable) and see if the problem persists. You could just go to the T-Mobile store and ask them to borrow a charging cable to test while you're there.

The other things you mention sound pretty glitchy. If it isn't too much trouble, I suggest a factory data reset. You'll lose any data on your phone, so make sure to back it up.

Are you up to date on your OS?

This. Try another charger.. Anytime you ever have charger problems always try another.. The charger could have gone wonky even though it's the one that came with the phone.

I too am having this problem but I suspect that this is not a charger/hardware problem but rather software.

Browsing around the web for this issue one would find that this is starting to become very common very recently- many different forums show this question within the past two weeks. Coincidentally T-mobile has been roll-releasing the HDR camera patch that the recent system update accidentally took away within the past two weeks. That update became available to me today- after I installed this started happening so I suspect that this is the cause.

@Paul or anyone- Did you recall installing that update prior to this behavior? The more info we have the better we can narrow this down.

Mine did that. Unable to charge, auto landscape mode at all times, open random apps and constant crashing. Reset the phone several times only to have problems continue after a few minutes. Called AT&T sending me a new phone. Have been using the factory charger and no other damage I can see. So I think it's just a glitchy phone.

Hi, i was having that problem too.. then i notticed that htc car software doing that, i uninstalled it with a side app, after that my problem seems to resolved. I hope it helps you too.(Sorry for my bad English..)
