Unable to get gear manager paid Gear S smartwatch with core prime phone?

Hi;

Just got the phone today from Metropcs after last night's Cricket fiasco. My Samsung Gear S will connect to the phone via bluetooth but, not via the gear manager app in the phone. Is this phone not compatible or can handle gear manager app? If you have any suggestions, they will be greatly appreciated. I already reset the Gear S 2x and uninstalled/reinstalled gear manager from samsung store to no avail.
