unable to select digital keyboard - moto x style

[Android Central Question]

When using the Facebook Messenger app, What's App or my phone's messenger app, I am no long able to select the keyboard. I can select pictures or emoji's but when I click on the text bar, the digital keyboard doesn't pop up. I have a Motorola X Style running Android 7.0. I have tried deleting the app, using a third party keyboard app (Swift) clearing app data and even doing a factory reset. Nothing has worked

There is nothing wrong with my screen, as I can use the keyboard perfectly when in Google Chrome. When I tilt the screen, it is possible to use the keyboard in messenger. Could anyone please help me with this, as it is very annoying.
