PC : Windows XP SP3
N7(unrooted) : Android 4.2.2 with "ES File Explorer File Manager 1.6.2.5" and "MX Player 1.7.13"installed

The shared media folder in my PC shows up in "ES file manager". I can view text/PDF files and play musics from my PC in my N7 perfectly. When opening video files (RMVB/MP4) "MX player" reports "Can't open the video file". I tried some other players such as VPlayer same error. I am sure the failure is not caused by CODEC issue because all videos (RMVB/MP4) installed in N7's internal storage can be played back perfectly. I seams that some setting is blocking the files (video only) transfer from my PC to N7 so the players cannot open them. I have no clue on the solution.

Please help, any suggestion is welcome, thank you !!

Have a nice day.

Have you tried using both the hardware- and software-accelerated options in MX Player ("H/W decoder" and "S/W decoder," respectively)?

If not try that. Otherwise, I found a help post on another site with the same issue. It seems they were able to resolve the issue by using Solid Explorer instead of any other file browser applications. Other than that, I don't have many ideas. I'd ensure that, in sharing options for your shared folder in Windows, you have the max. users set to at least three. It helps keep streaming/connection issues from cropping up, in my experience.

Thank you !
"H/W decoder" and "S/W decoder" in MX player both do not play (stream) the videos. With the same setting MX plays the videos stalled in N7 successfully so i don't think
coder is the issue. The share permission in my Win PC had been set to "Full".
For Solid explorer i will give it a try later.

Thanks !

I use ES Explorer and BSPlayer streaming from a Win7 machine. Has worked perfectly so far on all kinds of video formats.

fyi solid explorer isn't free like es explorer.

You might try an ap called "Mediahouse". It gives you a choice of what player to use and ES, MX-pro all of mine work on .mp4s. Media house is fast and starts with giving you a choice of shared devices on your LAN. "BS Player" plays videos that some of the other players (ES, MX-Pro) do not.
