[Unconfirmed] Thunderbolt in early February

That could be, get 4G phone sales in before they just refresh the popular 3G phones again. The one thing I found interesting was I read the HTC Incredible would have a larger screen, so does it mean the original Incredible HD theory with 3G still holds true where they decided to retool it as a world phone with US 3G. Just wondering, but I don't care about having a world phone anyways. I have a basic Moto Razr flip IF I actually go to Canada or overseas

You don't need a global phone when traveling to Canada. CDMA coverage up there is great! And texting in and out of Canada is free for anyone on a verizon nation wide plan (which by now should be everyone). Calls are slightly more costly though in canada.

Of course anywhere in Europe a global phone is required. But for me, I have no need for a global phone. When I do go to Europe (which isn't very often) I just call verizon a week ahead of time and tell them i'm going there. Then they mail me free global phones to borrow for while i'm there. When I get back I just put them back in their box and send them back to VZ.

Is $250 one year?

That's what my Droid 1 was. I took the two year price though. I can use my wifes date and discount. So why not save fifty buks?

So since the phone isnt global. Does VZW have a cheap phone i could take with me while deployed to Afghanistan?

There is still CDMA in Canada, but it is going away. Rogers, Bell and Telus are all going to be GSM. Telus is the only one with GSM & CDMA and they are pushing the CDMA out so it won't be much for forever.

Well, yeah it will be phased out.. in the next 3 or 4 years though. By then they will have LTE up there and verizon will have nationwide LTE down here. So then its about whether or not verizons LTE will be able to roam onto other LTE networks.

Armyntt,

When you get to Manas you can go to the Green Beans Coffee place and by a Nokia phone and a sim card for Afghanistan as well as one for Manas. They use a prepay system and you can recharge your phone at a website called 123topups.com or by buying prepay cards at the PX area. Essentially you will have a Afghanistan phone number and people from the states can call you on it if they need to get ahold of you. This method is cheaper then using verizon or any other phone service. Plus you dont want to be taking your smart phone with you on missions because of info stored on it. The simple Nokia phone works well and you dont have to worry about breaking a nice phone. I ended up buying a unlocked moto rzrv3 on buy.com for $65 and using it when with an afghan sim card when I broke the cheap Nokia. Hope this helps

I have a $100 discount and $200 hidden in my wallet from my birthday. I'm okay with $319 for one year.

Although I have a upgrade date coming in August for my wifes phone. Should I stake up a couple of upgrades, or save $70?

I am also leaning towards a one year contract... but I am wondering how much more this will cost me for the 2 other "dumb phone" lines on my account.

Will those phones cost a lot more than they normally do on a 2 year contract. If so, then it is not worth it to me in the long run! Well, to me it is, but my wife would not be happy if she had to pay extra because I want the freedom to upgrade after 1 year! LOL

The one year/two year contract option is per phone, not per account. So you can buy a phone for your line with a one year contract and still select two year contract extensions with your other lines. I've done it.

$70 is so little in the grand scheme of things, but I have 3 phones and 2 modems so honestly at any given time I have an upgrade coming and I can get what I need. Still I don't mind spending $70 more to start cutting the distance between contract renewals.
