Recently, after upgrading to Nougat, I noticed that the undo feature in Gmail does not seem to be working. After a swipe to delete, it offers an undo. When I press the undo it appears to undo for a fraction of a second, then the email totally disappears, into the trash folder. Is anybody else having this issue or know of a fix?

I'll agree that something is rotten in Denmark 🇩🇰

I tried what you described several times and the Undo feature isn't working properly. Looks like you should send an email to Google about this issue.

My Gmail version is 6.8.130963407.release

Same here, if I undo it stays until I refresh the screen and then it disappears into the trash folder. I'm same version as second response from GsDer

And forget about sending email to Google (I already did) - it's an unmonitored email address; you'll get an automated reply. You'll probably have to get on the Google forums and complain there.

I've this happen on and off for quite a while actually. But it does seem that I get a Gmail update at least once a week so it wouldn't surprise me it's fixed, then not, then fixed and then not. :)

It used to bug the crap out of me, but I know I can go into the trash and restore it there. It'd be a completely different story if it was gone gone! But yeah... Fix it Google!

I don't know if I am the only one, but I just got the new Pixel with android nougat and the gmail app doesn't allow undo of delete or archive when swiping any email messages in gmail accounts. It does allow undo in any other account (MS Exchange, Outlook, etc). So whatever the fix was in the September update was unfixed in the latest updates or simply does not work with nougat on Pixel at this point. Wish someone at google would fix this once and for all. I am tempted to return my Pixel and go back to my old Nexus 5. At least the gmail app works perfectly on marshmallow.

It also doesn't work (reliably) on the Nexus 6P on 7.1.1. So I wouldn't ditch the Pixel for that reason alone - sooner or later Google is bound to fix the issue.

The functionality is still there, just not very logical. I found a way to undelete my recent mistake this way:

  1. Click the email(thread) in the Trash folder
  2. Notice near the top right of the screen you'll see "Trash" in small font
  3. Click the small font "Trash" and a menu will come up where you can choose a new label
  4. Select "Inbox" or whichever folder you want the deleted email to go to. Done.
