Unfortunately, Messages has stopped.

Hi all, I've got an S5 running Lollipop. Just a few minutes ago, I was texting my wife when the app just crashed and closed. I relaunched the Messages app to send the text again only to fid that all of my past texts had gone. I started to compose a text, added the recipient and typed the message. When I tapped Send, I got the 'Unfortunately, Messages has stopped' and the app closes. This happens every time now. I've been into app manager and cleared cache etc but to no avail. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Android Central! Try also Clearing Data from the Messaging app (from within the App Manager). If that doesn't help, then how about a reboot? Or a cache parttion wipe? http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-10404

Panic over. I did a reboot and all was restored. I do get this happening almost every day now, so I'm guessing a bug in Lollipop? I'm glad that all it needs is a reboot though.

Time for a new phone. I have the S5 and wish I still had my S4. This thing crashes all the time when messaging. Yes a reboot works but I have to do it 4 or 5 times a day now. I have cleared the cache and data and messaging still crashes or freezes. I hate this phone.
