So I want to install Swype Beta 3 (just came out, supposed to be rad), but the beta installer requires me to remove the previous version of swype, and of course the Charge has it preloaded. Per this thread, I tried renaming /system/app/Swype.apk and /system/lib/libSwypecore.so, but all that does is cause Android to give me a dialog at startup that says "The application Swype (process com.swype.android.inputmethod) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again," and the same when I try to run the swype beta installer. Any way to purge the preloaded swype from the rom completely, or am I stuck waiting for a Charge rom that has swype removed? Thanks!

First you need to switch to another keyboard. Then you should be able to delete the Swype.apk after which time you'll want to reboot the device. then try installing the new one and set it as your keyboard. I always delete Swype from my device without issue you just need to make sure you have a different one select first

I /think/ I did that; in any case, Titanium Backup was able to uninstall it for me no prob. So that works too, apparently.
