Don't know what this icon is on wifes phone.
Must find out to be a hero.
Not in the manual from Sprint.

If it's on the left, it's likely from some app that was installed. The design of the icon looks like a dial, so maybe some kind of security app (i.e., the dial to a safe)? Does anything show up if you swipe down the Notification Shade? If you don't see anything, go through the list of all installed apps to see if anything might ring a bell.
