Unlock from carrier? Bell Nexus 6P

Wow, people are sure quick to become hostile and condescending around here. The guy is asking for help and instead of offering assistance, people in this thread are laughing at him. I don't quite think that's the way this community is supposed to work.

Anyway, the phone should be factory unlocked, as several others have said.

Just order from Google. You won't be getting it for 150 mate. That's that payment upfront and you'll still be paying monthly on contract. It'll be cheaper and your phone will be 100% definitely unlocked. If it's to expensive Canadian Dollars perhaps ask an American friend down under to order the phone since its cheaper in the US or just come over the border to a Best Buy and buy it there if you want. Because you won't be paying 150 for the 6P. Just like when some phones are 200 dollars or 99 cents. They aren't

It's the same price, the difference is that you are paying the phone company over the two years of the contract. Have you asked them what they charge for a no contract plan vs a contract plan? In the US all of the phone companies have stopped hiding the cost of the phone, they now separate the cost pf the phone plan and the monthly payment for a phone (assuming you but the phone from them). If you BYOD device then you only pay for the phone plan. Before they explicitly did away with contracts they offered a discound for a BYOD device.

Canadian carriers now spell out the subsidized amounts as well. For example, with Telus I paid 220 up front, and my bill states that $20 dollars monthly for 2 years will be applied to the device balance. That being said, I as well have been trying to find out if the Nexus 6P is unlocked from the Canadian carriers. There seem to be a lot of differing opinions. I'm thinking it is unlocked. I have a Roam Mobility SIM card that I guess I should just pop in and find out!

So in summary,

Highly likely that the phone will come unlocked try the new sim in it before paying $50 to unlock
I assume that you are getting it on contract renewing the term and giving you the phone from there.Obviously short term that is cheaper. Long term, better to buy from google as there is a bit of markup that the carriers take on the device. (not to mention being tied down to a contract) but I would bet you've weighed out the options

ive got both a 6p and 5x showing up in an hour or so from Bell.. ill post 100% definitive answer on factory unlocked situation then, dont be so quick to jump down this guys throat.. i just got both these phones for almost nothing on contract switching over to bell on new 2 yr terms.. im going to sell one off as i already use a one plus two as my daily and my wife uses a one, so im thinking ill sell the 5x and opo and keep the 6p and opt .im signing contracts because my new corporate bell plan in only available with 24 month contract.. so to bring my own devices i would have had to give up any "new" phone incentives.. so it was a no brainer here. i could care less about their perceived devices balances, as im saving much money and getting much more data by jumping ship to Bell. OP and his Brother could be in the same situation, where OP's bro has a decent newer phone but can still get a new phone on a contract upgrade, looks like hes just doing him a good deed where you would assume he understands what exactly is happening.

nexus phone are unlocked even the ones being sold by Canadian carriers. I bought my nexus 4 from bell (I signed one of those one month contracts that Bell use to offer). After the 14 days I voided the contract, put my Telus simcard, registered my nexus 4 with Telus and off I go.

sorry, i forgot to come back and chime in, yes like everyone is saying 100% factory unlocked both the 6p and 5x from bell in Canada.
