Hi All,

I bought a Galaxy s8 new unlocked from Samsung. Love it. Dropped it a cracked the digitizer however. I had insurance through Verizon and they send me a locked phone with their logo and bloatware all over it. How can I unlock the device and get back to the phone I bought before Verizon put their bloat and graffiti on it?

You bought from Samsung and insurance from Verizon? That's odd. Why did Verizon even send you replacement phone when you didn't even buy from them.

Anyway, all Verizon phones are Sim unlocked out of the box because FCC mandates it and not because they care about customers. So, that solves your problem.

As far as Verizon crap, you can use package disabler etc to disable the bloat or alternatively you can also flash the US unlocked firmware which doesn't have any carrier bloat. Google is your friend, search and you will find instructions to do that.

wait, you have Verizon branding on your s8? Unless you are talking about the boot screen which is only on for a matter of seconds there is no carrier branding on the s8 and s8+.

Send it back and request the unlocked version you paid for

Yeah that might not work since I honestly am not sure how he even got it insured in the first place.

This -- How did you get Verizon to insure the unlocked phone? According to their FAQ you have to buy the device from them. To be honest if you somehow got them to even insure it I can almost bet you will only be able to get a VZW branded one as a replacement and not an unlocked one.

Remove Verizon Bloatware

Hi,

I recently broke my unlock s8. I bought it direct from Samsung. Verizon, my carrier, had me covered with insurance. They send me a s8 LOADED with Verizon apps and a ugly Verizon gif when I boot up. Is there away to get rid of this. I about to send this Verizon phone back to the insurance company because it annoys me that much.
Verizon and the insurance company both said that don't provide unlocked phones.

Re: Remove Verizon Bloatware

Verizon and your insurance company is correct, why will they provide you non Verizon phone? You got lucky in the first place they even covered for a phone not bought from Verizon.

Below is the thread from xda where you can flash unlocked non carrier firmware and that will turn the Verizon phone you got like non carrier unlocked phone you had earlier. Obviously if you haven't done this kind of thing before it can get tricky and you can probably brick your phone. So, do it at your own risk, you can ask for help or questions in that thread.

Verizon only has Verizon S8s, they won't give you a stock Samsung S8. When I worked for Verizon(2012-2016) we couldn't put our insurance on unlocked phones provided by the customer, so anything not bought from Verizon couldn't be insured. I'm not sure why they even allowed you to get their insurance to be honest.

you can go through and either uninstall or disable every single app you don't want.. takes about 45 seconds to do all of them.

as far as seeing the verizon logo for 3 seconds every 2-3 weeks when you reboot it.. you are just going to have to live with that.

you don't need any app to do this. just hold on the icon in the app tray and choose uninstall or disable. it will remove them from the app tray and they are gone until you want them back.
