I have Smart Lock set up with a trusted bluetooth device which I wanted to have UNLOCK my phone. It is my understanding that it should keep the device unlocked while connected to the trusted device. It's doing neither.

I'm looking to have the trusted BT device UNLOCK my phone with no input from me, and KEEP it unlocked until the BT device is no longer connected. Assuming I'm doing nothing wrong is there a 3rd party app which will accommodate this?

Phone is a Pixel 3 XL, and all updates are current.

Thanks..

So you've gone into Smart Lock and set the device as a trusted device and when you wake your device, by picking it up or pressing the power button, you're still required to use a fingerprint (sorry Pixels are known for their facial recognition) or pattern to unlock your device? I'm just clarifying. You know that you will still have to swipe to get to your home screen, correct? I mean that's not a lock. I'm not sure if the Pixel offers a no swipe option. I think B. Diddy or mustang7757 might know, I know one of them has or does use a Pixel. The reason I go into this is because I want to fully understand your statement "...with no input from me,".

Thanks. Yes that is correct, I still have to initially unlock the device - I use the fingerprint reader. I wish to place the phone in it's cradle in the car and when the bluetooth connection is established the phone is unlocked and I'm staring at the home screen.

Hmmm. Is the unlock only once? I know before Android 10 Bluetooth unlock worked a lot better on my S10. After the update to Android 10 it's kind of buggy. So for me, when I get in the car after work I turn on my Bluetooth car device and get the audible affirmation that it is connected but when I pick up my device it first acts like it wants me to unlock it. I don't ever actually remember unlocking it, but a few times I've gotten the feeling that it has unlocked via face recognition. I haven't seen too many complaints about anything like this so it could just be us. If it was an Android 10 thing I feel like I would have seen more posts like your experience or mine.

Since everything else is an app, I tried looking up Smart Lock, because I was wondering if one could clear the data and cache for it, but it doesn't appear in the list even with System apps visible. On my way home I'll try this too but what if you delete the device from Smart Lock, forget it in BT settings, then clear the cache and data for BT, because that is an app?

From what I've experienced, you have to set it as a trusted device WHILE connected. When you are in your car and connected to Bluetooth, at that point go into security and set it. I've never had it not stay unlocked when in my car.

I've found smartlock to be buggy and inconsistent. Wish Google could get it to work as advertised.
