How can I unlock root rights on my phone? When I unlocked the bootloader on a Motorola phone years ago, I had to request an unlock code from Motorola, which was readily granted. I don’t remember much else about the procedure.

You can check XDA Forum as they are more into this , make sure you learn how to flash to the stock firmware Incase something goes wrong and you're stuck .

Did you enable developer options in settings and then turn on Allow OEM unlocking?

Your bootloader has to be unlocked first , but you should check XDA


Edit: also if it's greyed out in developer settings that means your bootloader is locked
