Unlock without finger

Is there a quick way to unlock without finger print? I miss the home button to bring up my pattern unlock screen. I have my phone laying on the table a lot and I just want to unlock it without picking it up. If I double tap it will wake up the phone. Then sometimes if I double tap again it will bring up the pattern unlock. Sometimes I can tap 20 times and it won't open the pattern unlock.

You could just keep device unlocked around a home Bluetooth device with smart Lock. Then you wouldn't have to deal with any of this.

If you double tap and slide up it will bring up the unlock screen.

A double tap only wakes it to a dim screen. One more double tap will sometimes bring it to where I can swipe up and get to the pattern unlock. But other times I can double tap over and over and it will not get to where I can swipe up.

Yes I may have to do this. I wish okay google would unlock it all the way. But that will only allow some functions.

This sounds like an issue with your device. When I double tap it ALWAYS gets me to the screen where I can swipe up to get the unlock screen.
Are you using ambient display?

I have AD always on set to off, and get the same he described. First tap gets time, second tap gets lock screen.

I do not have AD on. I do have it set to come on when charging.

I turned off AD to test and I get the same results as 18t above. Double tap once to get clock, double tap again to get lock screen. Works every time for me. Sorry I can't be more help.

Not to stray too far off topic, but I'm still amazed at how the fingerprint sensor works (or doesn't) in the first place. Barely touch it and boom - phone opens right up.

Few years back I had to have my dominant index finger reconstructed after an accident, and the 3XL sensor can't seem to be trained to recognize it, so I used the index finger on the other hand. (Must need the center swirl and patterns to work?)

I just cut the other index finger and have a bandage on it, so now I'm down to a middle finger...

Wait, am I just admitting I'm a horrendous klutz... :D

(I have mine set up with the Smart Lock to my watch and home/work places - so the double tap while it's set down works well for me - 99% of the time)

It doesn't need the center swirl to work if you train it with different parts of your finger as you are setting each print

The only problem I got with the fingerprint sensor is that with my Google Fabric case, the opening is a little too small to do the swipe down to bring down the notification bar. Swipe up seems to be 100% but down is like hit or miss require multiple tries. Probably is the way I am holding the phone. I wish they would make the hold on the case a tiny bit bigger. Without the case I would do both up/down easily.

No lie - it hates that one finger. Keep getting the message "sensor is dirty", but as soon as I tap it with any other digit it starts the recording/recognition process with no problem.

It's no big deal, I'm home under the weather and bored...
