Unlocked 32GB Issue - LTE Signal is Too Weak. 4G Signal is Fine

Title says it all. I like my new HTC One, which I received about 2 weeks ago from HTC. Though I can generally deal with some of the quirks of this phone (off-centered home button, Binkfeed), the LTE signal has been weak. It is usually at 1 bar and the db hovers at around 106-112. My wife's Iphone5 has a stronger signal while in the same location. I am not sure what the deal is, but I am concerned there is an issue with the phone. Is this a hardware issue or a software issue? Does it have something to do with it being unlocked, rather than an AT&T phone? I would exchange it, but I already sent in my trade-in with this phone's IMEI. What is strange is that when I am not in a LTE area, the 4G coverage has full bars. Thanks!

I bought my 32GB from Rogers but I unlocked it. The LTE is weak compared to 4G. I posted that some areas it feels like I'm on Dial-Up.

I think it's just Rogers because when I put my Bell it's strong.

Only comment I can make is that I haven't had any problems with LTE signal on my developer's edition. Maybe you have a defective one?

I have seen my LTE signal is weak in NYC. But when I am in the suburbs it seems ok. This never used to be the case when I had my iPhone 5. The signal was strong both in NYC and in the suburbs...

Dragging up this old thread because I have seen the same thing. I have had an AT&T iPhone 5 for a year now and quite familiar with where LTE works in my area.

I now carry my iPhone 5 *and* my HTC One Devel Edition around and have definitely seen that in fringe areas, LTE is weak or turns off when my iPhone has LTE just fine.

I've switched the HTC One LTE Auto on and off and when it's off, I might have 4 bars. With it on it often drops to one bar.

Now in areas with strong LTE signal it's just fine, and I've gotten speed tests with as much as 29 megabits down.

Noob question here...I am with Sprint and next to the signal strength indicator I will see the WiFi icon if I'm home or "3G" or "4G" if I'm out but there is no "LTE" indicator. I live Boston and this is one of the areas that Sprint has 4G LTE coverage so my question is - When you have a Sprint device that is showing 4G does that mean you are getting LTE? What about WiMax? How do you know if you are getting 4G WiMax or 4G LTE on a Sprint phone?

I know vendors can fiddle with the network indicator in the status bar, but try this...

Dial the following number: *#*#4636#*#*

About half way down that display is a field for Network Type that shows what you are currently connected as and will show LTE, UMTS, and maybe Wimax in case of Sprint. It also shows some other cool data, like the tower ID you are connected to, and signal strength.

When it says 4G that is LTE. WiMax is only supported on the older phones like the GS2. The One only has the LTE and 3G radios.
