Unlocked Note 5 does not work with freedom mobile

Anyone know why my unlocked Note 5 doesn't work on the freedom mobile network? I purchased off of bestbuy third-party vendor and it was advertised as "unlocked" but previously locked to Sprint (was previously used in the USA I am in Canada). When I insert my freedom mobile sim card it goes through this "hands free registration" process but errors out after five tries. When I manually input apn settings it still doesn't ever detect my network and doesn't find my home network. Any suggestions?
