"In April of this year, Samsung confirmed that it would have an unlocked variant of its Galaxy S8and Galaxy S8+ available in the United States. Now the wait is over.

Samsung has announced that unlocked models of the S8 and S8+ are available for*pre-order beginning today, May 9. Both models will begin shipping before the end of the month, with orders placed by May 24 arriving on May 30. Samsung only has the Midnight Black option available to those who want to go the unlocked route, so keep that in mind.

As for pricing, the Galaxy S8 will cost $724.99 and the Galaxy S8+ is priced at $824.99. Both devices are being offered with 0% financing, and buying one of the unlocked models will also*net you the Samsung Entertainment Package (6 months of Netflix, a 64GB microSD card, Clear View standing case) as a free gift.

The handsets will also be available at Best Buy."

I went ahead and ordered mine today directly from Samsung since they have the 0% interest offer and free entertainment kit. I just hope they update it faster than they did with the unlocked S7 series as I just read that those are still not on Nougat.

The updates are the only thing holding me back. I'm completely fine with getting the phone in three weeks - that won't kill me. But it really seemed like they didn't care about the unlocked version last year. But man, I don't want all the AT&T junk on my phone.

Wait until the software becomes available then download it..
I have the u locked software on my tmobile s7 edge no problems

I tried the unlocked S7 Edge on Verizon last year and it was basically a crippled version of the phone provided by Verizon. Missing features, not to mention, no updates. At all. Not something I'd recommend. It's not like getting an unlocked Nexus, Pixel or iPhone.

I pre-ordered. This whole missing features on Verizon bothers me. I also have a 10% off birthday coupon for Best Buy, $35 in certificates, a $50 Visa gift card and I'm close to having a $20 gift card from Samsung Pay.

Just updated my S7 today and no carrier bloatware

The good thing guys ,if you get the unlocked phone or carrier phone the software on both is interchangeable...so you can flash any files

Can you use the 10% birthday coupon on these?

I wonder if wifi calling will work on the unlocked version of the s8. It did for the S7 for tmobile. That is one of the reasons I didn't wait for the unlocked one was because I was unsure if wifi calling would work with Tmobile on the s8 and also because Samsung is terrible at updating their unlocked devices.

I ordered an unlocked S8+ directly from Samsung. I had a $50 coupon code from Samsung Customer Service to use, plus I wanted to take advantage of their 0% financing.

I currently have the US unlocked S7 Edge, so I already waited a long time for the Nougat update. I was a little leery of the S8 because of that, but it's worth it to me even if the updates are slow.

Now I wait...

I also have used both US Unlocked and Verizon S7 Edge and here were the differences:

Unlocked:
+ NO bloatware. Only Facebook and Whatsapp came pre-installed, and you can uninstall both.
+ Phone app has built-in Hiya Caller ID/spam filter.
+ Nougat update brings Samsung Cloud, still blocked/removed from Verizon.
- Only comes in Silver and Gold (technically also "Olympic")
- Wi-Fi Calling feature does not work
- Verizon Visual Voicemail not available; suggest using a forwarding app like Google Voice or Youmail instead
- Untimely updates.

Verizon:
+ Factory unlocked.
+ Strangely, more timely updates.
+ All colors available (Black, Gold, Silver, Coral Blue, Pink Gold through Best Buy)
+ Wi-Fi Calling Available
+ (Nougat Only) Both versions of the Settings Screen
- Nerfed features (no Samsung Cloud; Device Maintenance missing features)
- ALL the crapware. Immediately find DTIgnite and disable. Verizon apps all over the place. Shovelware games.
- Carrier branding on back and elsewhere

It's up to how you use your phone. I'd deal with the crapware if Verizon wouldn't keep removing stock features.

I would keep the Verizon version if Samsung would stop allowing Verizon to remove settings and features.

Don't buy into the unlocked bull****. I had an unlocked S7 and they rarely updated it. They just got Nougat months after all the carrier branded phones. Bloatware is mostly easy to disable. It's never bothered me. Samsung has their own bloat. If you don't want bloat buy a Pixel or an iPhone.

It shouldn't, be even if it does, those are easily uninstalled.

I cancelled my order for the unlocked S8 and ordered the silver AT&T version. Didn't want to take a chance on waiting so long for updates like the S7 series took. Plus when I looked at the colors in Best Buy, I just really liked the silver and didn't care for the black. Plus I have 30 days to try it and decide if I want to keep it so if I really think I need the unlocked then I can always return the AT&T one and get switch.
