Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen,
It's been a long time since I've been on here! I pre-ordered the Note 20 Ultra as Verizon but now that I think about it, should I have gotten the Unlocked version? Please let me know if I should try to rectify my error or keep it as is.

Thank you in advance!

Depends on your preference. I am on VZW and have bought unlocked with the note 9, note 10 and the 20 Ultra. I did notice that there was a fee and a line upgrade required when you order a Verizon model through Samsung.

I ordered the Verizon model without requiring any fee or line upgrade I believe. $750 out the door with my $550 Note 9 trade-in.

You might see it upon activation unless you use your old SIM

So other than that, should I ask Samsung to switch me to the unlocked? It's really only affects update timing truly as the phones are pretty much unlocked to begin with.

I was told I could only get the $550 trade in on a new line 😡

So at least through Samsung Shop, I did not have to do that. There were a carrier BOGO but above that was a generic Samsung offer. See attachedScreenshot_20200811-002306_Shop Samsung.jpg

I've been using unlocked on Verizon with the s20 without issue. I mean you lose native video calling but that's it. I prefer the unlocked personally.

This year's experience on Samsung was a bit different than last year, for me anyway! I chose the Verizon version of the phone, just like I did last year. But this time I had to sign on to Verizon via Samsung after I had already ordered my new Note 20 Ultra, where I was required to check a box that basically told me about the activation fee. Verizon wanted to know if I was upgrading a current line or adding a new line. I Maybe it's some new security feature? I have no clue! I was wondering if I should have ordered unlocked at that time too. I purchase through Samsung each year, sometimes twice a year. This was a first. Well,at least it's ordered!

Security Updates from Verizon are faster on unlocked models lately. System updates are a little behind the carrier updates. I always get unlocked on Verizon.

Just so you know, when I spoke to VZ the other day about Unlocked Note 20 Ultra... VZ does not support Unlocked 20 Ultra on 5G connection. I verified this through Samsung Tech. VZ wants you to get VZ Note 20 Ultra 5G phone!

Absolute BS from them most likely they are clueless as usual, since there wasn’t any issue with S20 Ultra on their 5G network. You will have no issues with US unlocked model and better model to get in every way. Obviously Verizon wants to get their model with all the customization and junk, what else the Verizon tech is going to say if you ask them. Most of the time they don’t have any clue about phones that too unlocked models. N20 Ultra has all the 5G bands including Verizon mm wave and will work perfectly fine on Verizon 5G network.

Agreed about the potential BS. Re. Spam, since my note 9, I have been able to delete all VZW spam that I did not want. Only things I still have from VZW is the Visual Voicemail, the bootup screen, and the slow updates (the worst part).
