unread message count (sony xperia M4)

Hello,
I found several (quite old) threads about my problem, but none helped.
After receiving an MMS and download of the contents failed, I still see the badge "1 unread message" on my (simple) home screen.

* Model: Sony Xperia M4
* Android: 5.0 (26.1.A.2.167)
* no custom apps (for core services)

* There is no BadgeProvider App (clearing its data helped others). Is it a new service name?
* There are no unread messages / threads in my Messaging app.
* Reboot did not help.

Can anybody help?

Welcome to Android Central! If you don't mind setting up your homescreens again, you could try going to Settings>Apps>All, select the homescreen or launcher app (I'm not sure what it's called on Sony devices, but it's usually something like Home or Launcher), and Clear Cache/Clear Data. Now go back to the homescreen, and set things back up again.
