before anyone asks i did a search and didnt find the answer i was looking for.

i am running a mac with the abovementioned os and tried to use the revoked 3 method of rooting my evo. i have the latest updates done to my evo but not froyo. i went to the unrevoked 3 website and downloaded the program for macs but when i try to open it on my computer it says theres no program to open it. i looked on the more info tab and the only thing i can think of is that maybe its because im not running 10.5 yet. and if thats the case does anyone know of a way i can do a simple root for tethering and screenshots for 10.4.11?

thank in advance

If I'm not mistaken it's in a .dmg file correct?

I *think* just OS X can open them, so I've read.

it is very possible that it could be your software. for me it was my hardware. i have a powerbook g4 which apparently doesn't meet the minimum requirements to connect my computer and the phone through adb.

Damn, that must suck *** haha

i think its my software. i dont wanna spend 160 dolalrs to upgrade to 10.5 just for this. i remember seeing something on youtube where the guy rooted his phone by going to a website and clicking on a few links and it rooted it ota. anyone know the link to that video?

I'm sure you can ""find" 10.5 online somewhere.

Um, rooted via ota? As in over the air? Wtf

Hm, still don't think it was straight OTA though.

I've never messed with unrevoked but can't you do it straight from your phone without a computer?

you could do it straight from your phone (i'm pretty sure) before the OTA that broke root last month. since then the new unrevoked requires a computer.

i found the answer to OP's question:
System Requirements | Android Developers

unfortunately you'll need 10.5.8 in order to be able to access sdk, which is a requirement for root.

i hate to tell you this but my only option was to use a computer at work.
this is probably your only option, too, unless you're going to buy new software or you dl it somewhere. rooting took literally no more than 40 minutes (i had to do it twice) using simpleroot. 4 steps. if you don't succeed the first time you just try again. if you watch the video a few steps ahead following along, you'll get it right away. don't know much about unrevoked, sorry.

edit:
you can try running linux on your mac. unrevoked 3 has a version for linux available.
unfortunately, i don't know anything about this so i can't point you in the right direction. good luck!

i used simpleroot.
here is the link. [Program] SimpleRoot OTA 1.47.651.1 Edition - xda-developers
this is the only thing you need a pc for.

the next step is:
How to start over: Fully rooted stock 1.47.651.1 in one shot (no adb!) - xda-developers

and that's it. you will be fully rooted with fully unlocked nand. i've heard unrevoked3 can achieve this but i have no clue....unrevoked3 wasn't out yet when i rooted.

yeah, unrevoked 3 wont work on anything under 10.5.8 i think and i also think it has to be on a intel based mac, not a PPC (this is where im screwed). Im thinking of installing unbuntu on a partition and seeing if i can get the Linux one to work. I cant do it on my computer at work, and im in a city i dont know any one. And while I could probably get by fine keeping it stock, im sick of all these extra apps i dont use. I have more extra apps than apps i use.
