Exactly how does it work? Do you need to do anything before using it and how to install it, I'm a noob when it comes to Android rooting. Are there any big risks in rooting?

Unrevoked3 uses an secret exploit on the Evo to push a custom recovery (clockworkmod), it then pushes unrevoked-forever on to the phone which flips the phone's signature verification to off so you can install custom roms.

Now correct me on this if I'm wrong, because I hear it described multiple ways; the automated Unrevoked3 is not recommended, but the manual method described in the sticky is preferred?

Pointing me to threads I already read is not productive.

People say it's bad, okay, why? Why is the manual method recommended over the automated method?

because you have no idea what its doing and you learn nothing from it cuz your going to run it then ask how to do the next steps...at least doing it the long method: http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-4g-rooting-roms-hacks/54844-guide-rooting-3-7-hboot2-02-w-screen-shots-1-27-2011-a.html you can actually learn something and then not be with a borked phone later down the road....theres been way too many issues ive seen with people using unrevoked and clockwork as of late.....take the time to read and be patient and use the long method and amon-ra recovery and you will be just fine.

just read all the threads about people using unrevoked and then they screw their phone up cuz they have no clue what they are doing.

my advice...read read read some more

I'm in no way saying I'm not going to do it manually, I have every intention to and I have read, read, and read some more, but that still doesn't fully answer the question.

I get it, do it manually so you aren't a lost ignorant straggler when there eventually is a problem, but people use the term "Unrevoked" interchangeably and inconsistently so it's very hard to follow which tool or method people are referring to.
