Its possible if he is using some applications like true caller or .... etc what they do is they say I have installed True caller and in my contacts list I have saved my friend number say xyz and now another user say from france install the same application and now one of my friend give miss call to the that person in france because my contact book is shared to the true caller server means the other person in the france who has installed the true caller application can see the name xyz and his contacts book is also shared with the true caller server in this way they identifies who's calling. The trick here is my sharing of each other contact and once the network grows larger and larger ;) I think you must be getting what I am up to. Try calling your friend by purchasing a new sim card and yes make sure that you haven't shared your new number with any of your friends and ...... Your friend device will not display the name now. True caller like application has more than million users which ..... !! So, the trick is he must be using some application to do that !! :p and he's trying to show off by showing "Hey I can identify any person calling me" :D You can also do a show off by purchasing a new SIM card but remember don't share your new number with just anyone and he'll shock:confused::'( and you'll rock !! :D

Is it with Verizon? My guess is that if they just got it they have the caller ID that Verizon gives you as a trial then wants you to pay for after the first month. I don't think it shows up as anything special when you get a call until close to the end of the trial when it begins asking you to buy the service after every call. I think the service is called City ID or something like that for Big Red and it's about $4 a month. Other carriers may have a similar service if the device isn't from Verizon.
