Please help! I am getting several texts each day originating from different email addresses. These texts contain vulgar messages and pictures. I do not open the links that they contain but each day I get more of them. There is not way to "block phrases" on the s8plus. Does anyone have suggestions? I am disgusted with this and at & t is unable to help me!

Have you tried talking to your carrier about this , and some message apps have spam filtering , look into settings in the app.

It's part of the same mentality that brings us robodialers - the internet is free, some people have too much time on their hands and like to annoy people. Since there's no commonality to them, there's not too much you can do.
You can try going to Gmail, hit one of the messages, hit the 3 dot menu, select "filter messages like these", try it on another one, and see if there's anything in common. (You can filter on From or "Has the words".) If there is, filter all messages like that. they'll be stopped at the server and you'll never see them on your phone.

Welcome to Android Central! Did you ask AT&T if there's any way to disable or block the ability for people to send you a text via email? If not, you might consider asking AT&T to change your number. Those kinds of texts via email address get addressed to a specific email address that includes your phone number (typically "[your phone number]@txt.att.net). If you change your phone number, those spammers most likely wouldn't switch the target email address to adjust. It's a hassle, but if the spam is a big enough problem, it may be worth it.
