How do I get my Samsung Galaxy S4 to stop announcing phone calls and texts to me. It just started doing this a week ago, and I hadn't changed any settings. It also changed my screen showing incoming calls. Is this due to some automatic update that occurred?

That sounds like the driving mode is turned on, go to your my Device settings and see, also, I think I saw other settings on the Accessibility menu in Settings-My Device, go there and see all the options you have turned on, and begin associating and turning them off, I have most of them off.
