Update 45.4.13 is SUPER Slow!

Personalize it, but don't go way overboard....
I dunno what "way overboard" means...I just like the icons in a certain order on the Home screen, for easy access (esp. while driving!). I like a personalized wallpaper, and then obvs each app is individualized, depending on its use. Bu it took me 4 months to get the phone just right, and now the FDR has messed it all up.
Widgets with constant refresh kill battery (fb, twitter, weather, anything with a refresh interval), as well as apps that run in the background without you knowing...
Of the ones you listed, I only have twitter and weather going.
Did you have any of the zynga games by chance?
I may have had, but I often delete games after playing them a bit, not only to save space, but because I never go back to them. So the simple answer to your question, I guess, is no.
Brightness and screen timeout awareness help out too... when I can help it I keep my brightness at minimum, screen timeout at 15 seconds...
Yea, me too.
Wifi does typically save battery... Go ahead and give the settings in wifi and networks a try this go around... never sleep.
You know what's odd? The Wifi was getting FULL bars (it should, as I'm sitting next to my modem), but the minute I turned the sleep to Never, it dropped two bars. Weird, huh?
Report if the fdr helped at all, and if you need anything else, I'm constantly lurking the forums.... I've been with android since the day they released the g1 and haven't wavered at all.
Thanks!:)
I've noticed a drop in battery performance myself as well, but then again it's been 116 degrees heat index here, driving in a hot truck, and listening to pandora all day...
I can't worry about the battery today; I was just trying to get the phone to work.

Lol, it's all good ;)

The wifi radio doesn't always show accurate bars... I get 0 bars from right outside my house all the way 100 feet away or more... And still speedtest at amazing speeds.

Is your never sleep problem still here?

Set everything up how you want. It's what the phone is for. If you have any problems, we can figure it out.

As far as the widgets, as I said, something with a constant refresh interval will kill the battery, just check them out I their settings...

It sure is. I just picked up my phone to check out an app, and the Wifi was gone.

So I went ahead and DL WifiKeepAlive again to get it going.

This update was a mess for me. AND, I can't remember how I got the apps on the SD without any apps...:-X

I think they took it away with this update...

And the wifi thing really sounds liner a hardware issue to me - it should stay alive. I'm hoping the replacement I get doesn't have these problems

Oh...so the update took the option to move apps to SD away? WHY? It was such a space-saving option.

Is your replacement a refurb? That's what Sprint offered me, which I don't want. I have never had good luck with refurb phones...

Yes. Its running 2.3.4 :)

But it still doesn't have a move to sd function... I see move to media area, which is internal storage

Normally I would recommend using a SBF to get rid of an update but since the 2.3.5 update comes with a new bootloader, the ability to go back is lost unfortunately (I'm pretty sure, photon dev work hasn't been the best). I'm afraid the only way to get 2.3.4 again is to get a new phone that has not been updated. Good luck!

Thanks. :) I was also told by Sprint that if the phone is flashed, it should get rid of the newer update, but only Motorola can flash the phone and I'm not getting rid of my phone for 3 weeks, in the meantime. Motorola did offer the flash as an option, but it will take weeks to get the phone back.

I have an appointment with Sprint next week to have them check the phone out and possibly request an exchange for me, but ALL their exchanges are refurbs, especially since this model is older and the stores don't carry it in stock any more (who knew?!). And, I don't want a refurb - always have had issues with them.

Only option now is to wait for someone to release the root on this newest update and go that route, hopefully sooner than later.

Root via photon torpedo method works perfect on 2.3.5.

Honestly, my replacement is a refurb but working perfectly :) took less than 2 hours to get everything back to how I had it :)

Only thing that ticks me off is the 4g still... Won't turn on while in my cardock.... (did the same on the I've I bought new)

Edit: post to video link to root 2.3.5

I have been on several forums about the new Photon 45.4.13 update

This update is "flawed" and even FDR's are not fixing it, excessive battery usage, WiFi Issues, lagging & other issues.

For those who have not updated it, don't do it....

They even failed to address the "Known issues", ie SMS, Time stamps, etc

Sprint & Moto are blaming & passing the buck to each other, pretty pathetic.

Just my 2 cents but it appears to be a major FAIL...

Moto is the one who pushed the update... So afaik it's their fault. I'm not upgrading again.

This update broke my Skype. Call quality is atrociously loud on the lowest setting. When placing a call, the skype ring is hear loudly via the rear speaker. All other complaints apply as well.

As tirith said, the torpedo root method works on 2.3.5.

I've got my phone working, somewhat, but not yet rooted. Might try it this weekend. Will never update again before reading reviews.

I learned that a long time ago when I had my Treos :). Updates usually tend to do more bad than good, especially without a factory reset. I've been running CM9 on my Photon and aside from the usual beta rom issues, I am loving stock ICS!

I had a similar problem after the update.
The phone would take over 7 minutes to boot.
Once booted it was VERY laggy and would often hang for a minute or so.

Solution, factory reset.
Just make sure you sync your phone with google first and save any pics/music etc that you want to keep on the external SD.

Now the phone boots in just over 1 minute, and is as smooth as butter.
It has made me happy with the phone again, I have lived with it sucking since the "update"

Thankfully, I had to get a replacement, which came with 2.3.4, and I haven't even been asked to upgrade

My phone has been laggy too and I never correlated the update to this, but knowing that the update was pushed mid-summer, this seems to be about the same time mine started acting up (the Facebook app takes forever to load, and email is very slow too). Question for those who have rooted - are you using CM10? I had read once before that rooting caused people to lose 4G connectivity (or maybe it wasn't the actual rooting, but rather installing the MOD that caused this). Has this been your experience?

Root does not take away 4g, it's just not working in a lot of the roms
