Update an unlocked samsung s5

I just got an unlocked verizon samsung s5 900v. It works fine with T-mobile now. I tried to use Samsung kies to update. It says "update can brick my phone". Is it OK for me to go ahead and update?

Because Verizon issue their own updates and not via Samsung, see #1.6 of 42 Galaxy S5 models - Dummies Guide, you will need to be registered on the Verizon network to receive any updates for the G900V model. Unlocked merely means that you can use the phone on another carrier.

Correct.

However, you can download and manually update your phone's firmware via Odin by following the instructions and video contained in the links of #1.11 of 42 Galaxy S5 models - Dummies Guide
