Update and Restore

If a Firware update fails, is there always a solution to restore the old firmware or the original firmware?

Or any danger of bricking the phone forever and having to send it to trash?

Samsung Kies (free software available on the samsung website) is pretty good at recovering failed update devices.
As far as what version it will put on there, old versus new i dont know.. but it claims to have built in recovery options.
