update = installer icon?

Sony xperia z3 compact - 5.1.1

Upon updating today, an icon placed itself on the last app page called "Installer". The icon is blue and looks like the picture inside is a blueprint of a phone. I click it and it gives me a black screen and message saying "No applications available on memory card". How do I get rid of this app? I'm unable to delete it, and I'm not sure where it came from or how....but I want it gone...or fixed.

Any suggestions/help?

Re: update = installer icon?

Welcome to Android Central! Are you seeing that in the App Drawer, or is it a shortcut on your homescreen? If you long-press it, do you get an option to look at the App Info?

Re: update = installer icon?

Hi B.Diddy,
It's an app that was placed on the homescreen. A long press basically does nothing, the icon greys itself out as if it were a camera, playstore, photo album app. Can't delete, can't find any information about it. Not sure what to do from here, re download every app i've ever downloaded and hope one of them updates using that installer icon??

every app thats on my phone/sd card is accounted for, so this is just 1 extra icon thats really pissing me off.

Re: update = installer icon?

Hmm--so if you long-press the icon, are you then able to move it around? Do you see any options appear at the top of the screen, like App Info or Remove?

Re: update = installer icon?

Long press = nothing, no info

swipe right to bring up the menu bar to click uninstall and the app grays out and cant be deleted.

sorry, will have to remove the spaces since I'm unable to post links or pictures

Re: update = installer icon?

That image actually likes the App Drawer, rather than the homescreen.

Try this: Tap it so that it opens, then go to the System Settings, and then Apps>Running. Do you see that app listed there? If so, tap it and see if you can get more app info.

Re: update = installer icon?

I threw that app in that folder to hide it for now.

Opened it, I get the black screen saying "no applications available on memory card". I go to system, apps, running, and theres 7 items with that logo, but none with that name. The ones listed are:

USB connectivity, Overheat control, Device Usage, Enterprise Service, and com. qualcomm.qcrilmsgtunnel, SmartcardService, Smart backlight control, and Recommendation Engine extension

Re: update = installer icon?

Sorry, I wish I had that phone so I could help in more detail. If that exact icon appears with those labels, it sounds like it's a legitimate system app. I wonder if it's a package installer.
