Update on Free Hotspot?

The other option is to call Verizon and have the hot spot turned on when you need it. Then call and have it turned off.
I wonder what would happen if hundreds of thousands of customers started to do that?

seriously though--they'd just issue the full charge to your month account regardless if you used it 1 day or 30 days...i doubt they'd care--they're getting their $.

dont know about wireless hotspot, but for standard wired tethering, I've done this alot. they do prorate the fee, but they also prorate the amount of data transfer you get too. But there have been times where I have been on call for my work that I have turned it on for a weekend. For me its worth it to be honest, and pay for when I use it, instead of all the time.

That figure is for the 3G Mobile Hotspot, not the 4G. You can't add that feature to the TBolt. Jury is still out on the 4G Mobile Hotspot number. And, AFAIK, there is no traditional "tethering" package for the TBolt.

Ok I have a girlfriend who works in a VZW store she just txt me that The rate is $20 a month for 2GB & the billing will start on 5/16 if you dont cancel she also said that Big Red changes its mind all the time so wait until the 15th to get the 411

The $20/2GB MBBC/MHS feature is for 3G devices ONLY. It will not be the pricing for 4G MBBC/MHS.

Secondly, you will not have to cancel. There will be a maintenance on 05/15 that will remove the MHS promo. You will then have to re-download the app to continue service, which a monthly charge. This is directly taken from the memo Verizon issued regarding the details of the 4G MBBC/MHS promo.

But just like SF DINC said, just root your phone and get it for free. I know the little tricks and tips around all the other phones for getting the free mobile hotspot feature....but nothing so far on the thunderbolt.

Coming from the Droid X, which had tethering shut off once it had GB on it, I would seriously doubt that Free WiFi tethering is going to be possible on LTE.

IMHO, that is why we are getting it free right now. They are working on a BLOCK of free tethering. I can't imagine that VZW wants LTE data going out for free, considering how awesome it is.

If not now, then soon.

Yeah, I think if you had an account on Android Central prior to March 17th, 2011 you will be grandfathered in.

I dont have a problem with the free hotspot going away, the problem I have is that they are waiting until the last second to tell us what the pricing is going to be. Some sort of advanced notice would be apprecaited. I do not like to think things over before I decide and it sounds like they are not going to say anything until the service is no longer free. A big company like VZW must already know what they are going to charge people.

I used to think this too. However, now that I understand that they are incorporating automatic sign-up (initial and subsequent) into the first attempted access, I can see their reasoning. Not so bad.
