Update to 5.0 without a computer?

My Nexus 7 will no longer communicate with a PC. I've tried everything, different computers, factory reset, changed settings, manually installed drivers, etc, etc. I even replaced the USB port because I read somewhere that it could be the problem. My wife's Nexus 7 connects instantly, so I know it's not the computer or the cables.

Right now I've got a custom ROM on it, BSZKitkat-KTU84P-ODEX-v1.6. It's unlocked but I lost root and can't get it back without a PC connection. I'd love to get Lollipop on this thing, am not being offered the OTA, and I'm out of ideas.

If I brick it I'm not going to cry, I've gotten my money's worth. Oh, and I work in IT and have owned Androids since the Droid 2, so you can assume I know most of the lingo and can handle complex instructions.

Thanks for any ideas!

JTAG. Sound familiar? Look for a service on ebay. The ROM's probably so far from normal that it couldn't find you know what with both hands.

Have you tried Developer Options - allow usb debugging? It is a stretch, but sometimes I have to enable that and allow the connection with the popup that follows.

I've tried that and everything else. I think the time has come to replace it. Thanks for the responses.
