Hello All,

My question concerns the update to Froyo and Root. I have an Evo and used Unrevoked to root it. I have heard several conflicting bits of info so I thought I would ask.....

If your Evo is rooted can you OTA update to Froyo when it is presented to your phone via the carrier?

So am I understanding this correctly that I will need to "unroot" my phone which equates to wiping it out completely?

The best solution is to root either 1.32 or 1.47, then install the already rooted Froyo update. That's what I did. I had 1.32, rooted it, and installed a rooted version of the 1.47 update. Then I installed the rooted version of the Froyo update this morning. If you're already installed the Froyo OTA you'll need to wait for someone to release a way to root it.

So (please do not take offense... I am just becoming frustrated with the lack of a clear answer) these types of replies are what are confusing me. You make it sound like the OTA will work with your rooted EVO with a net result of it being unrooted after the install. The previous poster makes it sound like the OTA will never be offered because my EVO is rooted.

I just want to figure out how much trouble I need to go through to update to Froyo.

Is it a simple matter of loosing root or will allowing the update OTA destroy to phone and necessitate the need to wipe it out anyway or will the OTA never happen because its rooted necessitating a need to update manually with the rooted Froyo?

If you used Unrevoked 3, like I did, you cannot use Sprint's OTA.

You must wipe back to stock with the RUU and start from scratch, unfortunately.

What others are trying to tell you is that the root methods will keep up with the updates (hopefully this week) and offer a solution for all who want to remain rooted with Unrevoked.

Hope this helps.

Ok, thanks for that. Makes sense.

So if / when I get the message to update my phone I should NOT do it and wait for the developers to have a method?

Sound right?

heres what I have seen so far.

Users that were rooted (specifically using unrevoked3) and ran the OTA were having problems.
Users that were rooted ( i can vouch for unrevoked3) that ran the leak went through fine atleast on stock rom as I have did.
Now who knows what we will see on the official one though. there are soo many diff scenarios of diff builds and mods in here that everyone is having something diff
