Got a notification to update IM+ to 6.0.3. Clicked it, clicked Update, it took me to Market. Market shows 6.0.2, with buttons for Open and Uninstall, but no Update. Shows the date as December 19. Confused, I relaunch Market and look at My Apps. It shows an Updates section with IM+ in it. Click that, and it shows the same thing as before, 6.0.2.

What makes this update both available and not available simultaneously?

I believe the prompt you got was from the IM+ app. I got the same thing. It's possible that the new version has been submitted to the market, but it hasn't yet been made available by the Android Market servers. I've seen this take as long as 24 hours before I'm able to update an app.

what does the thread title mean? update uncertainty principle?

It means there's uncertainty about the update. Hmm, or is there uncertainty about the underlying principle? Or is ther uncertainty about the principle that govens updates? Yeah, you're right, I have no clue what the thread title means. :)

Market is telling me that an update both is available and is not available. See Schrödinger's cat, which is both alive and dead. That one at least gets resolved when you open the box - for this one I guess I just have to wait.
