I think the Google rep and Verizon were mistaken. It works with Fi and it should work on a Verizon phone.

Check and see if you have an update available for Google play services.

When I got my Pixel from the Google play store today it didn't have the networking option in Google settings to enable wifi assistant. It wasn't until Google play services updated that I did.

One way you can force it to update Google play services is to launch the Android pay app.

No I'm not on Verizon. But I also couldn't enable wifi assistant on a Google store Pixel when I first got it today. The option wasn't there until Google play services updated.

If the OP could go into settings... apps.. and see what version of Google play services they are running. 9.8.77 is the updated version.

Is yours locked with a Verizon SIM in it?
play services at 9.8.77, opening pay does nothing.
The online version of the play store says that the app isn't allowed by my carrier, and I believe the app is required for the feature.

Maybe they did lock it out then. I'll be able to test on a Google store Pixel with a Verizon sim shortly.

I have a Verizon bought Pixel with a Verizon sim and have WiFi Assistant. Settings>Google>Networking.
Don't know if I did anything different than everyone else, but it was there the first time I checked.

Is everyone on the NDE63P update and rebooted?

I noticed that the feature seems to be tied to the following application:

Which can not be installed to my Verizon locked Pixel XL, "This item is not available on your carrier"

Google support suggested a factory reset. I haven't tried that yet but I'm in the same boat. Bought through VZ and don't have the wifi assistant setting

Is it possible the feature is connected to Android System WebView? That app is disabled on my phone and I can't enable it.

Google support suggested a factory reset. I haven't tried that yet but I'm in the same boat. Bought through VZ and don't have the wifi assistant setting

Let me know if it works, its possible that's the solution. I'm thinking this might be a thing with phones bought from Verizon stores directly? If people who bought it from Google and put in a Verizon SIM are telling the truth.

EDIT: Just tried side-loading the APK, restarting my phone, and no luck.
The only thing I can think is removing the SIM and doing a factory reset, only putting the SIM back in after I figure out if the feature is there.

Did you guys check where Jigo suggested? It's not under the initial network settings when you first tap settings. You need to tap Settings.. scroll down to Google and tap Networking there.

I have a Verizon Pixel and have the setting. Build number NDE63P.

Those of us with the issue don't have "Networking" under the Google setting.

For people who are seeing that setting, if you long press the wifi icon, then click the Gear to get to settings, do you see something that says "Switch to cellular data automatically?" I wonder if that setting replaces Wifi Assistant or if it's completely unrelated.

Interesting, the app is installed on my play store purchased pixel but the settings are not there.. I have tried Settings --> Google .. there is no networking in there. There is also nothing in the normal network settings. I am running the latest version of play services... Have an ATT sim. Gonna try a reboot I guess.

I'm beginning to think more and more that it is a verizon-bought phone problem. Someone needs to try to factory reset with the SIM out and see what happens

My Verizon bought phone came pre-installed with a Verizon SIM and I have the setting. I did get an OS update Wednesday.. maybe it was added in that and it hasn't rolled out to everybody yet?
