Just received Jan security update. Not sure if we at all even get Oreo (at least one major update should be a must). This is the last time am buying low end non-Google device.

There have been a few Tab S2s - the T813N and T819N came with Marshmallow and updated to Nougat. (That's not a low-end device. If you want low-end, look at Walmart, for $35 tablets.)

I agree - Samsung's Tab S line is far from "low end". Samsung just has a horrible track record of security and OS updates on any of its tablets.

The one I have is Tab S2 8.0 which comes with snapdragon 652 processor. Am sure much better processor on 9.7. Tab S2 8.0 is definitely not high end.

I was all excited to see a notification for an update this morning. It turned out to be the January 1 2019 security patch.

I know my Tab S2 8.0 is more than 3 years old, but Samsung is still selling it today as their premium 8 inch tablet. It seems to me they should be giving OS updates for at least a couple of years AFTER they stop selling them. Or at least make it clear they are flogging a device which will not get full OS updates in the future after buying it.

I got mine on reward miles and it is still doing its job. But I can never recommend anybody spend cash on a Samsung device. The support is not very good.

I've been with Android since day one, with numerous tablets and phones, and as a power user rooting & loading custom ROMs. But then I gave the iPad Air 2 a try, and now the 10.5" iPad Pro and the iPhone XS Max which replaced my Samsung Edge. These things just work great, and the app selection is excellent with a lot very polished, sophisticated apps available. There's a lot I don't like about iOS but I find the positives far outweigh the negatives. I doubt I'll buy another Android device.

I have TabS2 for my kid. I was always using iPad for my tablet needs, note series for phone and mac for work. Finally moved to tab s4 and am in love with it. iPad is nowhere near multitasking and DeX changes the game. I am more about productivity than games and tab s4 compliments beautifully. I can connect to VPN and work in Microsoft remote desktop at the same time browsing on other window. When at home, I am even able to complete tasks that needs mac on tab s4. And for media consumption this is an awesome device too with its amazing oled screen and 4 Dolby stereo speakers.

How's the performance on the S4? With my Android devices I got frustrated with the constant lag that I never see on my iOS devices. I don't care much about multitasking, remote connectivity, etc now that I'm retired and "single-threaded" but as a retired engineer, I am sensitive to performance.

The s5e looks interesting -

I have this device for 3 weeks now and I don't see lag as of now. Am having as good experience I am having with iPad. The only thing I miss is the FPS and apps don't support iris scanner yet. So, I have to enter password manually for some of them. But for media consumption this tablet is the best.
