[UPDATED 12/30/2012][Sprint Only]UnRoot and Return to stock

Don't you need a PIT file too? My gs3 is hardbricked and no buttons work however a jig takes it into download mode... i know this is one file that i need but dont i need a PIT too?

If you install the factory ROM, I believe that will give you the factory partitioning. I've not tried to restore a bricked phone with this, but have used it to unroot my phone, and it worked fine without a PIT file.

Re: UnRoot and Return to stock

Is there a way yet to unroot your phone after doing the update? Ever since updating it gives me random notes about superuser detection or access and seems laggy. Nothing huge, but I'd really like to take the phone back to normal and start over.

Try doing a factory reset. That should clear it up.

I had the same issue, and a factory reset did solve it. It was very painful doing it from within the OS though, as those messages kept popping up incessantly. If I had it to do over again, I would have just wiped to begin with.

In any case, I'm currently working my way up to 4.4.2, and will have that rooted shortly :)

Thanks!

First, let's make sure I understand where you are now. You said you were running the OTA, but that generally fails if you don't have a stock recovery. What ROM are you running now? You can look in Settings / About device to check. What you'll need to do will be different depending on whether you're on 4.1.2 or 4.3.

Baseband version: L710VPUCMK3
Android version: 4.3

There's no way to make a Sprint phone work on AT&T or vice versa. Sprint (and Verizon) use a technology called CDMA. AT&T (and T-Mobile) use GSM. CDMA radios can't talk to a GSM network.

I am getting a FAIL on Odin3 after trying to use the Kies download. Everything looks as it is supposed to on the thread. Not sure why it is failing. I go into recovery, even though Odin didn't work and I get "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again". I've already done a factory reset twice. Trying to figure out how to get a PASS message in Odin. Wife's phone has been stuck on the SAMSUNG logo for days after she accidentally okayed a Samsung update.

Dude.....your the best! I was stuck on this stupid Kies screen and I was ready to pay up $20 for someone to get it back to normal. Now I am up and running again. All because I put in a ROM that was probably corrupted? I already had a ROM in it and just wanted to try a new one. Thnx again!!!

Sooo I'm upgrading tomorrow and I'm still running Miui on 4.2.2 after previously being on Cyan and Carbon 4.4 kitkat. I have custom recovery and haven't started this process because I'm not sure I am able to. But I am on baseband MD4. Should I try this?

I hope this isn't posted in vain as this thread seems to be a little dead.

Alright, I found the list of Sprint OTAs and MD4 looks like it was the last one before the 4.3 update. I take that to mean I'm in the clear to do this method? I'm going to skip resetting the flash count, as I guess Sprint isn't too worried about that.
So I'll proceed and I'll post if I'm successful or nah.

Here is the OTA list:
Find and update the software version on your Samsung Galaxy S III

If you are on MK3 or ND8, definitely do not try this process.

Aalllright! It went very smoothly! Everything works fine and looks perfect for my brother when he receives it. Thanks meyerweb, I know you're like the maintenance man for the S3 forum and I want to show my appreciation to you and this community before I hop back on team iPhone tomorrow.
(It looks like this is my fate, constantly switching back and forth) :p

I followed these instructions exactly and it bricked my phone. Maybe it's an outdated file or something. I do need help fixing this situation tho, if anybody has any ideas

Here's a link to a ODIN installable OH1 firmware file for the SPH-L710T. I softbricked my Boost branded phone and I can confirm that is works. It will put the phone back in a factory, unrooted state.
I spent hours trying to find something to fix my phone and none of the other stock firmware's would work. I found this after almost giving up and it worked. I can't remember where I got it or I'd provide a link. I will also give credit to whoever put this up also. I'm not trying to stealing limelight.

THIS IS FOR THE TRIBAND VERSION.

YOU WILL LOSE ROOT.

Installation is the same the OP.

Firmware Version: L710TVPU0AOH1
It is in tar.md5 format. Click HERE to get it.

TRIBAND MODEL!! PLEASE DON'T FLASH ON THE ORIGINAL!!
