I made an account just for this, because my situation is super weird.
So, my phone was really behind on updates so I decided to start updating it. However on Security Update Dec 1, all of my photos on my gallery disappeared. I can see the images on my computer and with My Files, so I know (think) they're safe. I did everything, cleared cache, cleared data, restarted etc. But none of them worked. Also, whenever I tap on a photo in My Files the app freezes.
But here's where it gets weird, they only show up sometimes when accessing My Files now after doing all that. In addition, the sections such as images, videos, etc. are empty. Also, scanning device either has 0mb for pictures or displays nothing at all. What's even more strange is, granted it's an SD card, I can play a video perfectly fine. It's odd because it says there's no files on the SD card. This leads me to believe it is some sort of display issue.
I'm not that technically educated, but the way I'm seeing it is that whatever reads the files is now broken. Problem is I can't find a way to back up the pictures onto my computer because it's super slow. Also, of note, granted it's currently hooked up to my computer, the battery charging is very slow now. Is the hardware failing?
Right as I was typing this a new error has popped up "android.process.media keeps stopping". I looked into it and it says Clearing data for Sec Media Storage and Media Storage will fix it and not touch any files, but my screenshots are missing. At this point I don't know if anything is actually gone or it's just a lot of bugs.
Edit: I tried to back up my images again, and for some reason the files loaded very quickly (I hope they're not thumbnails), but when I tried to copy them over, it lost connection. Also, I can see my screenshots again in My Files...
