Basically i just bought the S5

i updated to lollipop, however the update symbol keeps occurring on the top left hand-side saying - 'software update, update postponed'. When I follow the link and update my phone, it reappears again after the update saying the exact same thing. I have updated the S5 like 8 times and the symbol still appears every time saying....'software update, update postponed'

How do i get rid of this?

That's strange, maybe you're interrupting the update download or insulation somehow.
Who's your carrier?
Did you buy the phone new?

I think it was new haha

I bought i from the UK...and the carrier is sim free. Should I return the phone?

In settings (about device) what version of the S5 does it say you have? For example mine is the G900P.

As a last resort you could try factory resetting the phone, then before going through the hassle of setting everything back up try to update.

Nope, Just wanted to be sure its real & the F variant of the S5 :)

Try this & let me know if things clear up.
Power down your phone, now press & hold the power button, volume up & the home button until your phone boots into Recovery. Now use the volume rocker to select Wipe Cache. Hit the power button to make it happen - give it a sec to clear the cache. Now use the volume rocker to select Reboot System - hit the power button & run you phone for a bit. See if this helps*
