Upgrade Android version

I have HTC Desire Z phone with Android version 2.2.1.. Where can I download the latest version and how to install?

Settings/About phone/System update. If your phone is pretty old, it is unlikely to get any more updates. You could always root it and flash a ROM with a more updated OS, but this can be risky if you're not experienced. There are many threads on this forum on how to do it.

Thanks but indeed that doesn't work. Once I tried to flash my ROM but I think I got the wrong upgrade version because it didn't got installed. I feel confident in backing up the whole phone and installing it all over again but I wonder if there exist any help in finding the right upgrade version for my HTC Desire Z Android .
