Upgrade from Galaxy S3 to the Galaxy S5?

I went from the 3 to the 5, and glad I did. Sold the 3 for $150 on Craigslist, so it only cost me $50 to upgrade.

I upgraded from the S3 on Android 4.1.1 (refused to update the OS) to the S5 and have been using it for just over a week now. I love it! The screen is indeed amazing, I never had an issue with the S3 screen but going to this screen really is noticeable. It's so clear and vivid and also is better in daylight use. The battery life is noticeably better and I no longer get the once in a blue random battery drain issue that I had with the S3. I don't know if the weight is the same and when I got it it felt similar but now I've been noticing it feels a little lighter, could be mental though. The camera is way better as well, much clearer and sharper photos and the video does 60p which is all I shoot in these days across all my cameras so it's nice my phone videos can keep with that format. Then there's the waterproof to a certain degree aspect. Never needed it but it's a good safety measure. I recommend the upgrade. And I got mine two months early before my contract end date for a total of $127.

Do not upgrade If your with sprint!! I did and you no longer get lte, 3g service only!! To make a long story (3 day conversations with sprint) short, the new tri band phones will not stay on Lte because they cannot get phones calls and text messages on lte. They told me to use 3g or WiFi only. I told them see you later and went to At&t. ..

I'm sorry, but can you elaborate or clarify what you mean by this? Are you saying that the S5 does not have LTE capabilities for talk and text at all - or simply that you cannot use LTE and do talk and data at the same time? Also on Sprint, have an S3 and I'm planning to upgrade to the S5, so I wanted some clarification.

Would sending pictures while you're talking to someone affect you?? I tend to do that and like being able to do that with my S3. If so, more reason for me to finally move on from Sprint.

I had the s3. here are the things I've grown to love.
1. camera
2.battery lasts 2x as long.
3.water "proof" doesn't hurt.
4.screen really is bigger.

Sure, I had the S3 and got the S5 (on sprint) after a week of issues with lte not working, I talked with sprint. They said they even phone will only get and receive text messages and phone calls while on the 3g network. Because of that the S5 will automatically default to the 3g network as working as a phone is the first priority. That why if you reboot your phone or put it on airplane mode (cannot receive calls or messages) lte will come back on. After a reboot lte will be on for a couple of minutes until the phone realizes that it cannot receive messages, then it kicks back to 3g. Sprint allowed me to cancel my contract and leave because of this terrible issue with no fix in the near future. I joined At&t and have had no issues since..

This is not entirely true. This does indeed happen only in certain markets. If a site is not fully upgraded {3g and 4g} than it will park you on 3g. Read more about it on s4gru.com it is a problem in some not all markets. Google ecfsb and sprint to read more about it. All sites will eventually be upgraded.

From reading these posts and articles written...it seems Sprint really screws up an otherwise awesome device. I read more complaints about Sprint's version of the S5 than AT&T and Verizon combined. I'm with AT&T and I have absolutely no complaints. The network is fast and I can talk and surf the web at the same time. Of course I could really do without AT&T's bloatware, but that's on every carrier's device.

I went from the s3 to s5 and so far like it. One of my biggest complaints is the change in the blocking mode, now it doesn't disable the LED flashing for incoming notifications so sometimes at night I'll wake up and see the light flashing. Also I've been having some issues with the battery lasting through the night even after quitting all programs and turning on blocking mode.

Hello everyone,
yesterday picked up my T-Mobile S5 and very happy so far, just want to share some experience.
Little background, had iPhones (till get tired of screen sizes and iTunes crap), nexus 4 then GS4 (lag was driving me crazy, sold while it hold good value), downgraded to GS3 and now S5.
My opinion Samsung heard the customers and I see a lot of little improvements on software and hardware I was wishing S4 would have. Of course I disabled some useless functions and apps, at least useless for me.
#1 I DONT SEE ANY LAG so far, with heavy use for a day
#2 Screen is superb
#3 Like new touch wiz look
#4 Signal strength, cell and wifi (spent yesterday good amount of time in Tmo store, checking dBms between S3, note 3 and S5) my observation that S5 has 3~4 dBm better.

I upgraded from an S4 so you can imagine my answer !
In regard to your question on what to use to transfer your data/apps to your new S5, I used a combination of SD card, (music/pictures/video), Google Account, (contacts/Apps), Samsung Switch, (everything else)...I was amazed at just how through the transition was! Out side of a little tweaking with Nova Launcher this combo moved EVERYTHING to my S5 without a hitch! Easiest upgrade I have ever done!
I highly recommend Samsung Switch...one App that they actually got right!

Cheers
