Upgrade on Verizon this morning

This morning I had an alert of an upgrade. There was no information with the notice except a link to a Verizon website which interestingly enough also had no information on the upgrade.
After installing I went through the programs on the phone and found about a dozen, most of which were documented as directed to improved memory management and improved phone OS responsiveness.
The upgrade did not add any updated information on the About Phone page or change any of the OS ID info.
My phone seems to be working well and I have so far not noticed any problems. Whether it is faster or has less memory leak issues I can't say.

It's still on 5.0.1, so I'd say the memory leak is still present.

I am also on 5.0.1 but as too if there has been a patch to the memory leak or work-around installed I don't know. There being no information of what any of the added programs do other than the generic "memory usage improvements".

Are you talking about this update from Verizon?

Here's an excerpt from that AC article:
Verizon has only listed a few small additions.

• Fingerprint for EAS Authentication - adds fingerprint as a device security lock option while an Exchange Active Sync (EAS) account is active on the device.
• Add Milk Music as preload on home screen.
• Galaxy Apps Auto Install - triggers Galaxy Apps to install when user signs into Samsung Account for the first time.

Since I do not use Fingerprint, that's okay

There is a logo of the letter M in my apps drawer, so I'm assuming it's the Milk Music. It's not on my home screen which is good.

The Auto Install is disabled and I do mine manually.

Also during the update I noticed a window that stated [ Optimizing app ### of 293 ]. Will see how the "optimizing" of apps fare in the seconds, minutes, days, weeks, months ahead.

I did this after reading this thread! I had also been thinking about and preparing to roll back to KitKat 4.4.4 due to battery issues, etc. Well, I had some time last evening and decided to do the roll back... it failed four times. After working with a couple of the Mods on XDA Developers, the reason it failed was because I let this upgrade happen first. I can NOT roll back any longer thanks to this update, so if you are entertaining thoughts of rolling back, DON'T do this one! Just some food for thought!

Updated here in southeast MI. No problems and now the crazy glitch of not being able to access volume and notifications from settings is fixed!

That would be my guess as well. I'm also getting a LOT of app updates in the last few days.

As mentioned by jimd1050, if you are even entertaining the thought of being able to revert to KK, do not take any OTA updates.

There is a way to update to OF1 "safely" via ODIN... which will enable you to revert to OAF or KK. There is also a way to disable KNOX and OTA so you don't get bugged by OTA screens and forced updates. All of this is presented on XDA forums.

I won't post links simply because some people aren't even interested in possible root capability/reverting. Those that are interested, please search XDA.
