I am a total noob when it comes to android based phones so please don't flame me too badly.

Went to the VZW store today and looked at the Bionic, very nice, fast, cool phone.
Been considering it for about a month now but may end up waiting for the Prime to come out.
It is rumored that the Prime will come with OS ver 4.0 and while it seems promising, funds are tight and I may not be able to afford it.
So long story short, If I get the Bionic, will I be able to upgrade to the new ICS, and will it even run?
I know there is no hard stats on ver 4.0 but does this sound like it can be done?

Thanks in advance.

It should run and an update should be released. However, it may take some time after the release of the OS for the Bionic to get the update.

I don't think anyone knows for sure. If I had to bet, I would say that the Bionic should receive the update later in the year. It's the current flagship phone for verizon, and the hardware should be able to support any changes in the new OS.

Will it come out right away? I doubt it. It will probably take a few months, but if it does come out, it should do so by the holiday season (late Nov early Dec). This is pure speculation on my part however

My guess would probably be Jan or Feb Moto would have to theme it, VZW would have to test and approve, then a soak test, this all takes time. I would not expect to see a push to all Bionics until mid Q-1.

I dont except to see ICS until Q2...........i mean just look how long its taking them to roll out Gingerbread!

It's a virtual certainty that this phone will get ICS, it's just a matter of when but Motorola and HTC seem to be the best at getting and keeping their phones up to date.

You indicated you are new so forgive me if you already know this but phones are not like computers where all you have to do is download or buy the new OS and install. You will need to wait for the Motorola to make a custom version for this phone, but given how popular this phone is I would expect it to be one of the first few after the Nexus phones to get ICS.

This is my guess as well assuming ICS is released in November.
