I've been out of contract now for a few years and have been paying retail for my phones to keep my unlimited data. With the upcoming $20 price increase it now makes sense for me to change to one of their plans, like the 6GB or 12GB.

If I know I'm going to stay with VZ, is there any reason not to upgrade with a 2 year contract in order to get the phone at less than half the retail price? (waiting for the Turbo 2 or Maxx )

Verizon doesn't do 2 year contacts anymore. All plans are bucket plans and the phones are full retail price. However, you can finance it over 24 months which is kind of a contract but you are only responsible for the device payments.

If you have udp now and need 6gb,Verizon has the max plan which is $30 for data.

There are loopholes to get on contract and keep unlimited too.

Never mind. To get that upgrade discount plan I have to keep my $59.00 900 minute plan (or $39 450 minute), PLUS buy the data plan (12gb $62 with company discount), plus $10 for my 1000 texts. Doesn't work out. But with my company discount it's not too bad - the 12GB is $62.50, plus the $20 line fee = $82.50. So after adding $25 or so with a new phone it's still not too crazy.

Here is something that boggles me: If Verizon has done away with 2 year discount pricing then why is retailers like Best Buy still offering certain phones on 2 year pricing? I am not doubting what anyone is saying but I am just confused so if anyone can clarify... Thanks.

2 year contracts are still available for existing customers

They are still available for EXISTING customers however if you are a low information consumer and show up at a corporate store.... The reps will make it seem that the only way to upgrade is through edge and choosing the new S M L XL plans.

Probably... Most corporate stores don't have your best interest at heart
