Hello! I've had my Optimus S since January and I've loved it until this weekend. I came from a BB8530, and it was a breath of fresh air!

I fixed the mounting/unmouting issue within a few days of getting the phone. I had a 2gb Samsung micro sd in my Wii, so I traded cards. I've not had any other mounting/unmouting issues, and the stock LG card works perfectly in my Wii :p

I decided that I'd like to go bigger, so I recently purchased an 8gb Samsung. I figured that all I'd have to do is copy all my stuff from the 2gb on my computer, then paste to the 8gb. I'd even Googled it - it's what I'd found to do. But, I don't think it's correct...

Now, to my issue at hand. My notification sounds and ringtones are completely messed up. I can't even use the stock ones on the phone! I thought maybe I had a bum card, or a bad format. I'd purchased 2 8gb (one for me, one for my hubby). I traded the cards, and the other did the same. I reformatted it, recopied the stuff to the new card and the same issue. I finally got angry and put the 2gb back in - and mind you I'd not done one thing to it, other than copy the files over. The phone is STILL picking random notification tones and ringtones for everything! I can set the ones I want (I'm a geek, and my phone plays Mario sounds, lol) - but I don't get that. Some phone calls I get a notification sound, others I get a stock sound, then back to the notification sounds. My texts and other alerts do the same thing.

I'd read online that I needed to reformat again and start anew. I did this with the new card. I formatted on my PC then in my phone. I downloaded Rings Extended from the Market (I'd read you could customize notification tones that way, instead of adding folders, I was thinking there's an error somewhere between my phone and my PC) and I downloaded Zedge to get all new ringtones and notifications as well. The phone is STILL doing this!

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do? My phone isn't rooted (for the moment) and I don't have any apps that manipulate the settings (I uninstalled Ring Extender and Zedge). I'm ready to throw the thing against the wall and get the BB back out!

Any suggestions are appreciated - and thanks in advance! :)

I'm not entirely sure why it's doing that but I don't think the SD Card had/has anything to do with it. My personal suggestion would be to do a factory reset. Go to Settings->Privacy->Factory data reset to do this. This will reset your phone's settings/data to a factory default state and should clear up the issue.

P.S. That purple text is REALLY hard to read.

I'm now officially blind :)

Anyway, if you do the factory reset, make sure you are running stock recovery or xionia cwma recovery. ThunderC will semi-brick your phone if you do the factory reset from Privacy->Reset. You can however do it from ThunderC recovery menu and not have ill effects (erase data/cache). Make sure you backup important stuff that would be difficult to reinstall.

The phone's not rooted so I guarantee a custom recovery kernel is not installed :P

Just being cautious. The "for the moment" gave me pause.

I've gotten questions where it is obvious people do not know the relationship between custom recovery and root so their terminology may not be our terminology. For example, if they had rooted V9 and accepted an OTA update, they aren't technically rooted, but they could have put back a custom recovery for backup/restore purposes and be just a step away from rooting. How would such a person describe their configuration?
