Upgraded to 2.1 now phone sucks

Well after a factory reset, no change in phone functionality. Happened again yesterday.... tried to make a call to my brother and no sound. When he tried to return my call, he said it rang once and went to voice mail. On my end, the phone screen said I answered the call, but no sound. So I had to reboot and it was back to normal. This type of thing is extremely frustrating and pretty unacceptable, wouldn't you say?

So I went to a VW service center. First one there this morning. As if "Jessica" was already having a bad day when I told her of my phone issues.... SHE hasn't had any issues with HER Eris so it couldn't be the software (ohhhh and I will refrain from expletives!). As if it was my first time with cell phone and I didn't have a clue. Anyway, they had to keep the phone for 45 minutes to replicate the problem. And wouldn't you have guessed it? They couldn't. And returned the phone to me with a phone number to call incase it happens again (1-866-406-5154) and my warranty will cover the handset replacement if the problem can be replicated.

So the plan is, when the phone is acting up, I grab another phone and call in the issue while it's happening. I really don't care if I get a refurb which will likely be the case. As long as it works properly.

Anyway, that's my latest. Thanks for hanging in there with me. Any comments? Type away!

Oh, and they won't do a system replace (reinstall 1.5). You know that just brings up another problem... shouldn't the manufacturer and carrier supply a CDROM with the original OS? Like computers do? What a scam to keep you upgrading.

Anyway, stepping down from the soapbox....

I don't say this to rub it in, but it is these issues exactly that pushed me to spend 2 hours on the phone with Verizon, talking them into moving my upgrade date up so I could purchase the Incredible at upgrade price.

The issues with the Eris just got to be too much to deal with. I don't know that this would work for everyone, but I made a list of the issues, talked with CS for over an hour, and ultimately got the phone I hoped I had purchased the first time around.

I resolved all my OTA 2.1 issues by rooting and installing Ivan's Eris Official 2.1 ROM. It runs smoother, you can overclock, and its just plain what should have been the OTA ROM. My wife HATED the OTA version... it was buggy, and in many cases more so than my eris Leak v3.

I have called cs twice and am getting the run around. I have talked to multiple techs and its like they just don't know what to do. I did a factory reset and got more pissed off because the phone still has all the issues it did before and it took an hour to get my phone back the way it was. I am going to war with VZW untill I get a different Eris or a new phone all together.

I took my Eris into my local VW (corporate) store today. Upon the audio bug issue, I headed to the store. The tech fumbled around with it for a bit and scratched his head. He disappeared into the back of the store for a bit then returned with a smile on his face. "Ha! I fixed it." I immediately noticed he installed a task killer on it. I kinda chuckled and asked why would I need to add additional software to get an original OS to run properly. He claimed that I had too many apps running. Mind you I did a hard reset last night and there were nothing more than the bundled apps embedded in 2.1. He told me to try that for a few days and see how it does.

I returned appx 2 hrs later with the phone in deaf mode again. Got a very understanding rep to help me address the issue. She immediately filed a claim and told me to be expecting a replacement Eris in the mail within a day or two. I inquired about which OS would be on the phone, but she was unable to answer that.

All I can hope for is that the replacement functions as it should. If not, I'm praying it has 1.5 on it. I'll root the beegeezuz out of it and rid myself of this blasted audio bug.

Hopefully.

If its coming from vzw itll have the current software. Maybe call asurion and see if theyve updates their stock yet? But itll cost you $50 to do an insurance claim.

Actually its 90 now but even if it has the new 2.1 on it you can still root because the hboot is lower than the rom that is used to root so good luck with that I been hearing that some of the phones are coming with hboot version 1.49 which would leave you sol.

Id suggest asking for a discount on an incredible for a new 2 year contract. Tell em youre ready to cut bait. Unless they want you calling back every 2 days until an update is released. Ask em how much it costs to call customer care and be xferred to tech support. Then figure thatll happen 15 times a month. Minus your monthly service. Now ask how much a new 2 year contract price incredible is, minus maybe $50 or $100...and the monthly service plan. The math is pretty helpful when negotiating with front line employees. They can see the win/win. Unless theyre retarded. Just keep eacalating and theyll upgrade you eventually.

Patches, that is exactly what I am considering doing. However, even though I know better, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and give the refurb a try for a lil bit.

I did exactly what patches suggested. I made a list of about 10-12 serious issues the phone was having.

I spent about an hour and a half on the phone with CS. They kept sending me to the next person up the chain. I insisted that the only way I would be satisfied was with an Incredible at 2-year upgrade price.

The final guy was having none of it. He insisted that these were HTC problems. Not Verizon problems. I calmly reminded him that it is Verizon who purchased and sold the phone. It is Verizon who slapped their name across the front of the phone. It is Verizon who looks bad every time I go to show my phone to an iPhone using friend and it does not work, and it is Verizon I am paying over $100 a month for my serivce that is useless on a non-functioning phone.

He sat in silence for literally 10 seconds, I thought he hung up on me, and he agreed to upgrade me.

He sounded really pissed about it too. I, however now have an incredible, and it is Incredible.

I'm on my 3rd replacement Eris and the rep told me they will not swap it out for another phone that is not part of the replacement program.

Should I just keep calling back until I get them to listen to me?

I was firm and patient and told them that if what they wanted was a happy customer, they needed to fix this, and a new Eris would not do the job.

Well, after all of yesterday and some of today, they gave me two options:

1) Upgrade early(which would be stupid at this point)
2) "Buy" a CPO phone. The only phone that comes close to the Eris is the Motorola Droid.

So if you have been getting replacements and the phone still does not work and the call centers refuse to help you, then do this:

Go to the Verizon wireless website > Contact Us > Send us an E-mail > Choose Existing Customer > Then explain the issue(s) you have with the phone as well with the call centers being non-helpful and refuse to listen. Indicate whether you want them to call you or email you. Do not be afraid of being firm with that. They will call you if you ask.

This email is different than the call centers and they will work with your problem and will work with you to get a different phone device.

I got a replacement phone the other day and the boot loader is 1.49 s, I pretty sure it can't be rooted, I've tried unless I got the piece of crap v3 leak instead of the 2.1 root, when I downloaded the PBOOIMG.zip file. One thing I miss about my crackberry, you can charge the os all you want...just take forever

I'm just going to wait till the Droid x comes out and grab that I will just pay full retail and sell my Eris to someone else to recoup some of the cost. I might be able to get 100 for it with the extended battery.

I called corporate and they agreed to let me get an Incredible as a replacement. I just got to wait for the shipping now :/

I called 611 and they told me that "they might have to get me a DIFFERENT device". I don't know what they mean by different but I hope I can get the incredible
