Upgrading from Galaxy S4

So I'm thinking on upgrading from my current Galaxy S4 to the Google Pixel 3a (3a, not 3). I've seen the specs side by side but don't quite know the difference in processing power between the two. I want an upgrade, not a lateral movement.

I'm not concerned with the camera. I'm concerned with how fast apps and games run, switch, load, etc. My current phone often slogs or freezes, even when browsing the web.

Am I going to notice a significant difference in processing power and speed between the S4 and Pixel 3a? What would be the closest equivalent in the Galaxy line for the 3a?

You will DEFINITELY notice a difference. The 3a might not be the top of the line when it comes to specs, but that doesn't mean it's not capable. And compared to your many many many years old S4, this is gonna feel like going from a 1975 VW Buggy to a 2019 Camaro. Sure, it won't be the 2020 Porsche all the other cool kids got, but it'll be preeeeetty decent.

The closest thing in the Galaxy line-up would be between the S10e and the J line.

You will notice a huge difference. The s4 is so many years old and uses a really old processor. I can bet the pixel 3a's processor is twice as fast if not faster. Also saw a bunch of YouTube tech reviews on the pixel 3a and people said it runs games just fine.

The 3 or 3a will work fine for you and both have great cameras. You current device is so old you won't believe the difference between the two. The faster speed alone will shock you when you first use the new pixel. Good luck!

You will see a big difference in any phone from 2017 to now from s4

S4? Oh boy. Run for the pixel 3a. You will be so happy you did. Day and night difference. Not even a comparison.

Considering you hold your phone for long time like S4, I suggest you move to flagships instead of mid tier like 3a.

The reason I haven't upgraded is because I've had no need to plus the cost. I've just recently been bugged by the sluggishness of the S4. Plus my 10-year-old is begging for a phone. Seems like the time to upgrade so I could give my old one to him. I'd go with a Pix3 or S10 but, as I failed to mention, I'm actually upgrading two S4's, mine and my wife's, so can't afford the flagships.

Go for 3a... It's really day and night. Let's say that i noticed difference switching from p20 to mate 20 pro... Not as huge as it would be but i had my p20 for a half a year. And p20 didn't get slower over time... Just half year made a big difference... Now i can imagine what would be transfer from s4 to 3a... + Considering for how long you use one smartphone... I don't know if you know that you have unlimited cloud storage on pixels? Like literally unlimited+ flagship grade camera. That's a huge difference itself... Not to mention screen, speed, battery life, reception, speakers, charging and so on... Take that 3a and be happy!
