Upgrading to Fold 3. What do we gain what do we lose?

I thought about trading in my S21 to try the Flip 3, but I get a lot of use out of Dex, and the Flip 3 will supposedly not be able to handle Dex.

Hoping to find some articles about why that is.

But Fold 3 is another story.
Only thing that would worry me about losing is the durability ip rating.
Im really shocked about no Dex and dont see what the reason would be

All I can say, there's a lot of opinions from those that have not used it as a daily driver. But I also feel if you're buying a phone for a camera your going at a camera the wrong way.
Except you have no idea how I use my phone and why a decent phone camera is a factor for me - especially for my job.

I know I started the other thread re the Z Fold 3; but my comments still stand

It looks to be a superb phone and one I'd love to have a test drive with; but not sure it'd replace my S21 Ultra; due to the smaller battery and also the camera capabilities, that's just my thoughts & opinions

I'm iPad-less currently; having bought myself an M1 MBA and that being as portable as it is; having an iPad Pro alongside it didn't make any sense (but it is something I may look into again when the prices crop a bit more; more so for the M1 12.9 iPad Pro)

But thinking that the Z Fold 3 could do both those jobs in one; it couldn't. The large screen is superb; buit for me, it'd be no good as a reader for magazines & eBooks, because it's still too small

And for me also; that crease would do my nut in haha...

It's a fantastic gadget; but a daily driver it is not. For me anyway

Just going to repeat what I've said on battery. I've had the same results if not better in battery performance on the fold 2. I'm expecting similar results from the fold 3, the screen is new technology which uses less battery power, and processor is suppose to be more efficient. Bigger isn't always better.

I respect it isn't for you, that's cool. I just wanted to share that the battery actually performs very well on the fold 2, hopefully it does on the fold 3, it should.

Let me know when I can buy one for under $800 new without trade in, I've yet to pay more for a phone. At that point I'll use it for a daily driver, until than it's not worth the price to me.

It may be a form factor or design issue trying to put in similar cameras.

Anything like water or dust intrusion would require accidental damage protection.

The fold is thinner 6.4mm vs 7.9mm and smaller when you account for all the electronics being housed together on one side. They kept the primary camera from the S21 but put in a smaller telephoto and wide angle camera sensors compared to the S21. To keep the camera set up from the S21 Ultra would have further reduced battery capacity and made that camera hump ridiculously large.

Losing the awesome cameras. Some durability.

Gaining extra under screen camera. Coolness factor, screen real estate. Portability.

Portability is a good plus! As a minus, I would add extra caution as far as phone accessories, being careful how you carry it or leave it in bags, purses, etc. And what about things like screen protectors? All of those things make me feel like this device, though cool, will need some extra TLC.

Nope.. Use it like any other phone. I do everything with the fold 2 as I've done with any other phone with the exception of one thing..I don't use a case on the fold, it's bare.

That's good that that is the case (LOOL pun unintended) for you! Maybe these fold phones have gotten more durable, last I checked!

Get comfortable and keep waiting

Just realized my Note 20 Ultra was $850, thought it was cheaper.

S7- $500
N8- $660
N8- $600
N20U -$850

It was hard to justify the Note 20 Ultra price, I'll probably be waiting a few years before I own a foldable, just my opinion phones have gotten too expensive.

Yes they are getting to expensive, that's why the trade in program is popular. I would never pay $500 for a S7. I would check swappa those prices are probably less there

Exactly

Yeah... And if it did have to pack in that camera setup imagine what it would be like closed. It's already 1.6cm, with the extra bulk it would be at or near 2cm. Not to mention the extra weight...

At least they could fit a bigger battery and an S-Pen silo then though haha.

How did you get a Note 20 Ultra for 850?

The $500 I paid got me an S7 before they officially launched in 2016. I wouldn't even pay for one today now that they've got no software support.

How did you get a Note 20 Ultra for 850?

Verizon usually knocks $400-$500 off the price during promotions, got my last 3 phones on Black Friday for that reason. Device payments don't bother me when I save hundreds.

I totally agree with you. When I bought my S19 about two years ago, I remember being unimpressed that it was, I don't know, $1200 or so. With my Pixel 5, I got Google Preferred Care and a screen protector, and with tax, it all came to over $1000. Still a tough pill to swallow but at least I got more out of the deal. Phones have gotten way too expensive, and I feel as though I just can't get one without insurance, so that will make the price even higher... We just can't win!
