Upgrading to the Fold 4 if rumors are true?

Victus glass

Victus was used on the Fold 3 so believe it's the same. But I saw somewhere they improved the screen protector on the inside so that it won't peel away as easily as the Fold 3 did? Hope that's true. My co-worker's inside protector on his Fold 3 started peeling away at the corners like a cheap screen protector. Our Verizon rep did sent us a replacement instead of telling him to take it to a UBreak. Good to have Corp reps. :p

Man I didn't even think about protecting the inside screen. A whole nother set of problems to worry about lol

I don't know if you can... do people buy and put screen protector to protect the screen protector? I imagine such a film coming up at the crease after a while.

I would imagine that's just a screen you leave as-is, hope having it closed when not used is good enough to protect it and wipe gently more often to keep clean and free of debris.

Yep the Ultra Thin Glass underneath is just that, paper thin glass fibers on a flexible backing. Some UBreakIFix shops have damaged the screen just removing the protector. It's not a glass screen in the traditional sense.

Before I could even start to be tempted, the Fold would need much better specs to make it at least comparable to the S22 Ultra.

The Fold 4 is missing IP68 water resistance and has a plastic main screen, a multi-year downgrade compared to the Note/S line.

The Fold 4 main display, despite its physical size, has lower resolution than the S22 Ultra. The S22 Ultra has about 13% more pixels than the Fold 4; even the Note 9 from 2018 had more pixels than the Fold 4. I care more about resolution than about physical screen size; if the details are present, you can hold the phone close enough to see them. (If your near vision isn't good enough for that to work, you can get a $5 pair of reading glasses instead of a $1,400 resolution-downgrade.)

The display difference is even more stark when watching videos with a standard aspect ratio. Then, the screen width is the limiting factor, and the S22 Ultra has 42% more pixels for video than the Fold 4 (there, the Fold 4 is even worse than the Fold 3).

I also care about the camera's capabilities. The Fold 4's camera has only 50 MP and 3x optical zoom, worse than the 108 MP and 5x zoom on the Note 20 Ultra in 2020, and far worse than the S22 Ultra's 10x optical zoom.

In sum, if I switched to a Fold 4, I'd be paying a large sum to reduce my phone's display resolution, camera resolution, camera zoom, and build quality. All I'd get in exchange is the ability to hold the phone a little further away to see the available details. For me, that's not a worthwhile tradeoff.

It's not bad as you think , you make it sound like they gave you 10 year old technology. The Fold 3 and 4 are powerful device's and very good at multitasking and foldable which isn't for everyone.
The camera are not like the s22u but they don't suck by any means or the display quality.

I firmly believe anyone that purchases a foldable device is basically a beta tester for the manufacturer.
Can't see the screens holding up with my use as a retired plumber my s22 ultra take a beating can't imagine what a foldable would look like.

Its like anything else that evolves.

Carburetor cars were main stream until fuel injection came about, gasoline cars were mainstream until we got to electric cars.
Foldable are in 4th generation and dont see them being deleted from market anytime soon only forward.

The thing is, I quoted the actual specs, so it's exactly as bad as that. :) Sure, it's not 10-year-old technology, except for the plastic screen. But as I pointed out, the display resolution, camera resolution, camera zoom, and lack of IP68 make it weaker than some 2-to-4-year-old technology.

Of course it's great if some folks like it anyway. I'm just saying why it doesn't appeal to me personally.

Yeah it is not for everyone , but i dont think they had that plastic screen technology flexible on a phone 10 years ago

My issues with folding phones are strictly coming from my personal usage pattern.
I've got the 2 and 3 iteration and we're great like sth new in the market.
I don't even question the problems with not mechanical self damaged screen. This one is scary combined with refusing warranty repair.
My real life issues comes from experience and usage:
- the screen is too narrow to comfy writing
- taking photos when it's folded gives very small preview
- the creese is still visible but disturbing is touch experience, e.g when gaming or writing with swype unfolded the finger slip is stuck. You can definitely feel it's rubber plastic and lots of fingerprint left.

I didn't experience rubbery/plastic feel with touching but don't most others put film or glass screen protector on their non foldable device? I do :)

I wouldn't by a product 2nd time in a row knowing I didn't like the first one , that's just me .

I'm looking forward to 5th generation let's see what happens

Don't get me wrong Foldable device have their flaws but overall pretty good experience

Feel free not to get one since it's that bad. I have the fold 4 and s22U, both phones are fine. They each serve their purpose. The fold is on the 4th generation and the S series is on its 22nd version, the S series has had a lot longer to grow. The fold is 4 years old and had grown a lot in just 4 years. I bet the fold won't be far off the S series in a few years. New technology isn't overnight.

With second i was curious early adopter, bought it used for very good price, the third i was impressed with IP rating i need and tempted with good deal from Samsung went for it.
I'm not refusing this device is awesome but specific in some aspect.
My main issue is photo preview and cramped keyboard, small ones but using it like very often every day bacame from non issue to annoying

I will say on the fold 4 that little bigger screen size made a huge difference for me. I use the front screen more. I don't ever want to see it get as big as the S series, but maybe another 3mm might do it, but I'm happy with this size also. The fold 2 and 3 were narrow, usable, but I prefer the 4.

Of course I'll try the 4, waiting for delivery, for me both note/ultra and fold series are unige in theirs own way and can't decide to choose between them.
Waiting for their baby with all the best features. Don't forget about inhouse spen, which personally i use a lot
